How to activate aSony Vegas from Magix on a custom built PC?

Hello there,

I have a problem. I bought Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 14 on the 1st of April 2017. It was activated and everything was allright. Recently I upgraded my computer's processor and motherboard and needed to install Windows again. I downgraded from Windows 10 to 7.

I lost my files on hard drive so I needed to install all my software again. Installed Sony Vegas Movie Studio Platinum 14 which I bought for video editing. But when I tried to open the program to enter the serial number a popup window showed telling me that I don't have licence for this product.

So I logged to my Magix account and checked what is wrong. It came out Sony Vegas was activated on my computer with the previous motherboard and I got to know that I need to activate it again. So I deactivated the version activated before and tried to activate it again. I was asked for the product's serial number which I entered. Then I was asked about my Computer's ID.

And here is the problem. I have a custom built PC which doesn't have Computer ID. What should I do? I tried to contact the technical support but no luck. Is refund possible? If yes I could ask for it and buy it again.

I am looking forward for any helpful responses.

Hi and welcome to the Magix forums.

Since your question is about Movie Studio you really ought to post it to https://www.vegascreativesoftware.info/us/vegas-movie-studio-forum/

However, for your computer ID, this should be whatever name you selected when you installed Windows 7. (The installation should have asked you to give a "name" to your computer, even as a self-build). That name becomes your ID. My computer is self-built and the "name" I gave it (under Windows 10, Windows 7 should be the same) is the one all my software uses as my computer ID.
