How to achieve the "infinite zoom effect" with MEP 17?

Zaza_from_Johor wrote on 5/26/2018, 5:29 PM

I found this video below

and had the idea of using this effect as a transition... I failed terribly....

my idea was to zoom in through he window of the car:

Then carry on zooming on the second video:

( I can be slown down)

Any idea how to achieve this effect? Any Adviice or tutorial anyone?

Yes something like that... how did you do it?

Hi,

I presume that you have Plus or Premium. To do this, you need to understand keyframing, mask creation and Chromakey alpha.

I used VPX, but you can use MEP for everything but the zoom blur at the end.

I created a mask of the window using Xara (Designer Pro X or Photo & Graphics Designer) but you can use almost any graphics program. I exported the mask as a png file with transparency. Original photo on track 1, mask on track 3, second photo or video clip on track 4. See the image. The original photo gets a slow zoom from 100 to 115% up to the point of the playback marker (in the image below), and then zoom to 800 at the end. I also moved the photo for the last keyframe to get the car window centred.

Mask - zoom out and move to get the beginning over the car window, then add key frames to follow the car window and zoom in to fill the screen. Then give it Chromakey alpha.

Second clip starts with the mask, but zoomed out to what I wanted to get the dog in the car window. Then I created size/position keyframes to follow the actions - mask and window, and zoom out to 100%, centred at the end of the transition. I added in a zoom blur to the last half second of the original clip.

I can do a tutorial, but it will take time. Where did the photo come from - is it yours? Can I use it in a tutorial?

Hi

. . . . I used VPX, but you can use MEP for everything but the zoom blur at the end . . . .

Is this a single effect or a combination of zoom and blur in VPX?

Hi,

Below you can see better. I used the zoom blur effect under Sharpness with Level going from 0 to 50. I didn't play much with this. I think a Pixelan blur from BlurBender Pro would have been more effective.

One other thing, I used a fade in on the second clip and mask so that the second clip doesn't suddenly show up in the car window.

Hi John

Thanks for that - there was no wonder I could not find - did not look right down at the bottom of the Sharpness effect.

In MEP I have the Hitfilm Toolkit installed which has a zoom-blur effect to do the same thing.

Cheers
