How does one separate the audio from video on a project?

Fred-Hoeser wrote on 4/5/2023, 2:40 PM

I am used to editing on Sony Movie Studio Platinum 12 where when one imports a video clip into the time line it automatically creates separate video and audio timelines that are linked together as one allowing one to move the audio and video in sync on the timeline. This allowed me to easily insert key frames for adjusting the audio levels for the main video/audio timeline when doing voice overs and background music.. I am currently using Magix Movie Studio Platinum 2023 version 22.0.3.172. and am using the timeline mode as it is the closest to MS Platinum 12. My computer has Windows 10 installed.

Is there any way to set up MS2023 to automatically split the tracks when adding a clip with combined audio and video?

I was able to change an individual combined object to have the sound on a separate timeline, but it said to right click to see waveform. That only brought up the context menu with no wave form. Am I doing something wrong?

Also, since I've done a lot of editing on this project already, what is the best way to switch to separate audio and video for the entire project?

Thanks.

@Fred-Hoeser

Hi Fred,

In the Program Settings, Video/Audio tab, you can uncheck the parameter "Video/Audio on one track" to get Video and Audio on separate tracks. Also, under Import, check "Automatically create waveform during import."

On the timeline, if you already have a video with audio not on a separate track, select it, shortcut Ctrl+H and the audio will be placed on a separate track. For more than one, select all that you and apply Ctrl+H and the audio for all selected objects will be placed on another track.

Video and Audio will still be grouped together. You can ungroup them using the broken chain button on the toolbar above the timeline.

If the audio part indicates to right-click to get the waveform, just do the shortcut Shift+E.

EDIT: I should have added that you should watch at least the first of 2 tutorials about Everything Audio to see more about audio editing possibilities in MMS:

Thanks for the quick reply. Will check out your suggestions. The video looks interesting but does it pertain to Magic Movie Studio 2023 as well as the other two programs referred to?

@Fred-Hoeser

Hi, and welcome to the user to user forums.

The current version of Magix Movie Studio is a rebranded version of Movie Edit Pro and not an update of the Vegas Movie Studio which was discontinued by Vegas developers. Video Pro X is the expanded version of Magix Movie Studio. Magix Movie Studio was also known in some countries Magix Video Deluxe.

The last Vegas version of Movie Studio was 17.

Thanks Ray.

I’m still a bit confused. So, if I’m looking for help on YouTube, which of the two (Video Edit Pro or Video Pro X) should I be looking for to find help for my Magix Movie Studio 2023 Platinum program?

I’m a retired pharmacist and this name game seems sort of like acetaminophen and paracetamol. The same drug, but by a different name in different countries. Confusing if you are not in the know.

@Fred-Hoeser

Magix Movie Studio is the "new" name for Magix Movie Edit Pro, as Ray said. So Movie Edit Pro is what you should be looking for, not Video Pro X.

However, just to add a little more confusion, for European users, Movie Edit Pro was named Video deLuxe! So, if you encounter mention of VdL, that is also relevant to you!

Hi

To add to the previous commentators suggestions and clarification, there is a list of tutorials here created by @browj2 and another user ( 😇 ) all relevant to Movie Edit Pro/VideoDeluxe/Movie Studio (2018 and later versions) and Video Pro X
