How do you or even can you, Stitch 360 GoPro Fusion Video Files?

GoPro Fusion creates a front and back video file. I thought that the "stitching" referenced in Movie Edit Pro could do that based upon the informercial. However, from what I am understanding, one cannot merge the two separate front and back files into a 360 file as I had thought. It appears that the stitching it is referring to is for 360 cameras that produce 1 video file. When I import a file, it only will allow you to select one video file to activate the stitching. Am I correct that this software cannot do this or am I missing something?

(GoPro Fusion Studio is supposed to do the stitching but it crashes and is not useful. I was hoping that this software was a solution) Any help would be appreciated.

I'm not aware of anyone who currently frequents the forum that uses a Go-Pro Fusion.

I have out of curiosity looked at the requirements for processing the footage and came across this on the Intel website.

Does your PC come up to the specs needed for the initial requirements for the Fusion Studio application which seems an essential starting point for editing the files.

Thanks for that Intel link - Very interesting! It highlights the points that you and the rest of us stalwarts have been banging on about in regards to the need to keep our hardware and software "up to the minute" to handle the quickly changing recording technologies.

Intel's Jean-Pierre Navarro believes anyone working with their GoPro footage will want the newest possible system. "Consumers producing professional-grade videos will probably want to upgrade their PC to get the most out of their files," he said. "If you want to work at the highest resolution, it's going to be too crazy to do anything on a PC you bought three or more years ago. You're going to spend too much time, and it will be too hard to do anything fun with OverCapture, for example."

Navarro said the engineers from Intel and GoPro tested some system-stressing scenarios using sixth, seventh, and eighth-generation CPUs in various form factors, desktops, and laptops. "If you compare desktop to desktop with eighth and ninth-generation CPUs, you see significant performance improvements," he said. Even laptop systems with Intel integrated graphics will benefit from the optimization work. "We worked with GoPro to optimize their code together, suggested ways to optimize workflows on the CPU and the GPU, and it really paid off for consumers."

Magix, like GoPro have obviously decided that they need to work closely with a chosen manufacturer of CPU / GPU's to optimise their software to certain Hardware. See this bit of fine print from the Intel article:-

The article actually states that Magix MEP has the ability to manipulate the GoPro Fusion footage:-

When users are back home on their home PC, they can perform advanced film editing using plugins to additional software titles such as Adobe After Effects* or MAGIX Movie Edit Pro*.

So what Ray has suggested is that your PC may not have the required hardware to cope with what are very high resolution (5.2K) files.

It would help if you gave us as much information about your PC including CPU and GPU make and model numbers, OS build, and Version numbers of MEP as written in Help > About.

My bolding. It looks to me like you need a GoPro plugin for MEP to edit that video.

All my forum comments are based on or refer to my System 1.

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.

I'm glad you also read the footnotes 😉

My take on it is that the footage has to be converted using the GoPro Fusion Studio before bringing it into another editor for further refinement or it can't be done. That also possibly means the need of an additional graphics card on top of the need for an Intel GPU with more than 4GB of vram to handle files above 4K.

The "Plugin" is already in MEP but it only works with a file that contains the front and back camera views and this is what Fusion studio is supposed to do - create a file that combines the separately recorded front and back files as the OP and Ray have suggested.

If Fusion Studio is crashing on @John-Merk's PC then he can not get past that step. Ironically the system requirements list for Fusion Studio look relatively basic.......just like MEP's......😄, although I do see they recommend Intel Iris 620 graphics specifically.

Hi.

This is why being an early adaptor to any new tech now is a minefield and needs to be researched (preferably by downloading the manual for a given product although that is not always useful either) before a purchase so as to know what world of pain you possibly letting yourself in for.

Every time I have purchased a new camera in the past 12 years I have had to upgrade at least my software to cope, and now and again the hardware has also needed to be replaced to cope with the new demands of more pixels and newer 'more efficient' codecs that invariably always need a lot more processing power to cope with the demands of the newer encoded file types.

People often blame the software before they look at the requirements needed to process the new files and manufacturers are never up front about the processing needs on often leading edge new tech.

You missed a zero of the processor number - it is the Iris 6200.

AFAICS the processors with Iris GPUs are for the mobile device sector ie laptops, or workstation PC's with Xeon processors ie CAD and high end scientific use requiring large amounts of data calculation - from past research Xeons do not make for good video editing.
