How do you display track curves on video track?

johny_lovin_it wrote on 11/18/2012, 11:46 AM

I've seen you can have those wave forms displayed on audio track and then I like to adjust the volume track in the middle of the audio track in case I want to voice over so that the music isn't loud. But if I want to display the tracks for a video track like if I want to adjust the transition for the background or a text, I would like to know how you display those tracks the same way. Can anyone help me if they understand what I mean? Thank you.

I tried right clicking it but it only shows on audio track, not video track. Where can I go? The youtube videos don't help specifically what I'm asking for.

Hi

First - welcome to the forum

I would suggest, if you have not already done so, you read the pdf manual installed with the software - this will get you started on the interface and what you can use to adjust objects directly when they are on the timeline and how to adjust transitions etc - an example is in the image below (green highlights)

Look through the Tutorials available on this forum and do use the search box on the right - it is very likely that any problems or questions you have, have been covered before.

Track curves as you see in the audio tracks are not available on a video track until you have added an effect that uses keyframes as shown in this example - in this case the speed of the video has been changed - many effects use Keyframes and there are many tutorials available on how to use them on Youtube

Hi Johny

I think you want to use the keyframe controller. Have a look at the Help or PDF manual under "Effects > Animate objects. effects curves". Almost all the effects (including titles) in MEP can be animated (adjusted in size, position, strength, etc.) at an infinite number of points in the time of a clips duration.

For transitions and fade in and outs of titles, try the section on "Objects".

Edit: John beat me to it and has gone into more detail.

Well no, I know that. What I mean is to use the what's it called? Bezier Interpolation curve. For both video and audio? So that instead of a straight incline slope, I want to use the smooth curving slope like a hill, you know what I mean? How do I do that?

Not sure which version John is using, but MEP 2013 has an additional button which gives choice between straight lines and automatic track smoothing. The image below is from Video Pro X which has a third option -- full user control of Bezier curves with the typical handles.

There is also the option to use 'Curve' mouse mode where you can freehand draw your curve with a gazillion points!

Or for better quality: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4019461/MEP-Bezier.jpg

As so often the case, the feature richness of MEP remains frustratingly more elusive than it should be because of poor documentation. The word bezier gets no hits in MEP 2013 Help or the PDF manual. And interpolation gives none of relevance.

Oh - Carl beat me to it, darn!

Okay that's great but where do I find it? I need steps. I am using a trial version of pro x4 and I am in video effects and have brightness/contrast selected but it doesn't show in the picture. I selected a title editor track and I can't display those lines to control the curvy lines. It's easier on video but it doesn't show on audio or title track. Please guide me to how I can use that?

Can I also ask how to use the green screen? I want to display a footage in the foreground while I'm in the background. I also want to know how to do a speciel effect. You know how Godzilla spits fire from his mouth? Know how to do that?

johny_lovin_it wrote on 11/20/2012, 10:47 PM

I think I did find an answer. It has to be video level. Gotta' lower it to 99 at least. Put a diamond there somewhere, click on the eyeball and curve line and there you go. I just don't know how to do the same with the audio track. Anyone know?

Of course you can, but please:

(1) Start a new thread as it is very difficult to keep track of questions and answers if the topic changes mid stream

(2) Do a search on say 'greenscreen' to see if your question has already been answered. I'm sure it has!

(3) I'll think about Godzilla and await a new question.

[Giving up on inline quotes... You said:]

Audio cant have 'brightness/contrast' settings (or color correction, size and position etc). They are only for video and images. You can only have track curves for the effects under 'Audio effects' and they are the same (for volume) whether you make the adjustments using the key frame animation of the right click 'Volume curve'.
