How do I use score editor in Samplitude Music Studio?

wildeprods wrote on 7/6/2013, 4:59 PM

I'm trying to create a score for my music created in Music Maker. I have the Samplitude Music Studio.

I loaded the WAV file and opened the midi editor. That's where I get stuck, because there are NO instructions on how to turn the wave file into sheet music. The Help indeex supposes the person knows how to do it already.

Neither of the programs convert WAV into midi, if that's what I'm supposed to do.

None of the buttons in the midi editor work

How do I get it to work (in detail please) so I can load the music and turn it into sheet music?

wildeprods & mjrose90,

WAV to MIDI is a big topic and big business as well:

 http://stackoverflow.com/questions/2126193/wav-to-midi-conversion,

http://www.digital-ear.com/digital-ear/buy.asp?tab=8

http://forum.audacityteam.org/viewtopic.php?f=13&t=47691

There are a number of single purpose programs available to do the job with varying degrees of success. Seems solo parts can be done quite well but there is limited success when you have several instruments playing together.

Carl

Thank you, Carl. It helps a bit, but it didn't answer my/our question at all.

We're using Samplitude Music Studio in association with Music Maker.  Music Maker provides exporting each separate track/instrument of the Arangement in one go, making it easier for scoring, but it exports it and converts it to wav format, NOT midi and does not provide export/conversion to midi.

If Music Studio requires the files to be midi files in order to get scoring to work, it seems stupid not to allow exporting/conversion to a midi file. Magix should provide the add-on or have it included in the program or at least in an update.

But the question still stands, what are the steps to turn the instrument track into sheet music in Music Studio and print it out?? What buttons do we press to unlock the scoring elements in Midi editor, and how do we get the track into midi editor so it can be turned into sheet music??

Hi

. . . . But the question still stands, what are the steps to turn the instrument track into sheet music in Music Studio and print it out?? . . .

The Score editor works only for midi files, if you are using any audio file format, eg WAV, mp3 etc  you cannot create a score from these.

Hence Carls answer about converting to MIDI - like Carl I have not found a good audio to midi converter.

Consult the installed pdf manual - available under Help - for usage of the Score editor.

John, if the Help was any help and bothered to outline the instructions on how to do it, we wouldn't be here. For God's sake... THINK!!

You have just wasted our time and patience with your  inane answer.

Both answers have clearly told you what you are trying to do IS NOT POSSIBLE with wav files.

Read the installed pdf manual pages on the Score editor (pp 194 onwards for SMS 2013).

Then why can't we save arrangements as midi files. As it stands it was a bloody stupid idea putting score editor in to the program in the first place!!

One Magix tech guy said Movie Maker will export it as a midi file. Either he's on another planet ort has a totally different version of Music Maker 2013 premium... or midi also goes under an addittional name, because I can't find it.

For a simple wav to midi conversion program such as intelliscore, the price is $88 ($40 cheaper)... and it will spit out sheet music. This makes Samplitude Music Studio totally worthless! I was told to upgrade to Samplitude because it converts a wav file to midi and scoring was much simpler and straightforward.

Now, tell me how to do it! If you work for Magix and are a Tech guy, you should be able to tell me how to work it, even if i have a midi file.

All you are doing is skating around answering the question, sending me to Magix competitor, and demonstrating to us that you know less about how to work the program than us because you are refusing to answer the question.

WE ARE HERE BECAUSE THE HELP WAS NO HELP. THE "INSTRUCTIONS" ARE VAGUE AND DOES NOT INSTRUCT US!

It does not tell us why none of the buttons work when we try to use them.

It does not tell us how we unlock them.

The program doesn't work because the instuctions don't work and tells us NOTHING.

Michael,

Forgive me, but how is "...you cannot create a score..." an inane response? There's no question in my mind of its meaning and it's certainly to the point! Please remember that though Magix (the company) sets up the forum, both the questions and the answers are provided by users like yourself. John has invested his  time and patience to volunteer an answer -- he can't make your program do something it is not desiged to do.

The Samplitude's pdf manual which John helpfully suggested states clearly (emphasis mine): "The score editor displays the MIDI data of a MIDI object as a score sheet. It "interprets" the available MIDI data into real time.".

Because, for one thing, it does not answer the question. Either he is not bothering to read the posts or he has a mental disorder that only allows him to read certain key words.

Putting the question in a sentence that a five year old can understand, he couldn't even answer that!

What are the exact sequence, in order, must someone do from loading a music file (midi) to printing out sheet music of the instrument/track that can be handed to a musician to play?

That is the simplist way I can put it. That is what I asked for in the first place.

I did not ask "What company can I go to (other than Magix) that will provide a program that will convert wav to midi?"

I did not ask "Can I use another music file such as MP3 to print out a score?"

I did not ask him to refuse to answer my question and to answer questions I did not ask, so he could piss me off.

Hi

Let us stick to facts and not make assumptions about a persons ability to read questions or whether an answer is inane or not.

. . . .That is what I asked for in the first place. . . . .

Oh no it is not !

The inital post says (my emphasis) -

. . . . I loaded the WAV file and opened the midi editor That's where I get stuck, because there are NO instructions on how to turn the wave file into sheet music. The Help indeex supposes the person knows how to do it already.

Now you are saying

. . . What are the exact sequence, in order, must someone do from loading a music file (midi) to printing out sheet music . . .

These two very different questions - the first is not possible as you have been told three times.

The second - how to use the Score Editor -  is covered in the manual very clearly - for SMS 2013 pp 194 - 205, for SMS 15 pp 339 - 428.

If you ask the wrong question you will not get the correct answer.

John

Since not one person here could answer the question "What are the steps (in detail) to turn music into sheet music and print it out". I will have to go elsewhere to find out.

Most of the ignorant retards here were more interested in attacking me and quibbling with semantics than actually answering the question.

If you do not know the detailed steps on how to to turn music into sheet music in Samplitude Music studio, shut the fuck up. Your opinion and rants just cause problems and does not answer the question asked!

First visit here - somewhat rude in places.

Mozart could memorise a score and write it down. However, unless you are a child celebrity you will have to spend a substantial amount of money to buy software to convert audio into notation. Several programmes try but none, as yet, can do it completely and successfully..

There is nowhere I've read in Magix publicity which says any  of its programmes will do this. Band in a Box tries but usually only manages about half successfully.

People will certainly attack rudeness and silly questions. Some forum managers delete such comments and questions. I, for one, do not like swearing on any forum. Please go and play with the traffic which will successfully turn bodies into blood and bones for examination..

Yet another ????????? (changed by moderator) that doesn't know how to use Samplitude and doesn't know how to use the Score tab in it, announcing to everyone he's a self-important ????????? (changed by moderator) that likes to hear the sound of his own voice and providing an answer that has absolutely NOTHING to do with the subject.

I got my question answered by Magix head office. I had to ring them direct to find out how to do it, because the PDF manual is so vague as to be completely useless. They were most helpful and ran me through the procedure step by step. Which is infinitely better than reading moronic answers by people who have no idea how to use the product and can't answer a straight question.

Let us stick to facts and not make assumptions about a persons ability to use Samplitude and make comments about the intelligence level of other members, such as you have done in this topic.

Consider this a warning under sections 2 and 6 in this topic .

As a courtesy to other members, who have tried to answer your question, post the answer you received from Magix here and share the knowledge you have gained.

MIDI format has been in use from the '80's. Sequencers used MIDi before they started using audio. There are pages explaining MIDI all over the Web. The fact that there is a MIDI edition different from audio edition in any DAW tells clearly that those formats are different. They have different uses. MIDI is not sound. It sens orders to a device : " I'm sending you a C5 with a velocity of 94 on the second beat of measure four...etc". The MIDI command is sent from a DAW, a master keyboard...The device can be a sound module, a DAW... Using a DAW without inquiring about MIDI is like driving a car without inquiring what that pedal between the two others is for.
