. How do I transfer connect visuals and new sound track into one scene to transfer to TAKES?

acmdavidson wrote on 11/4/2012, 10:47 AM

I have disconnected and deleted the original sound fron a scene. I am trying to connect the remaining visuals to sound recorded separately  and then to transfer them to TAKES by drag and drop but only the visuals will transfer.  How do I get the new sound and the visuals to conect to each other so that I can transfer them to TAKEs as one scene?  I am using Magix movie edit pro mx plus

Hi Sandy,

I assume you have the new audio in track 2 under the original video in track 1. Just group them together using the group icon:

Then Edit > Save objects as Takes (or keyboard shortcut Ctrl + F)

Hi,

Terry's answer is pretty much exactly what I was about to send you.  Follow his instructions and you will get the takes that you are looking for.

Good Luck,

George

Hi, thanks for the reply.  I seem to be having lots of problems with the software it certainly doesnt respond to my instructions the way the tutorial software seems to.

I have the new sound  under the visuals but when I click on them only one of them turns orange the other remains grey.  An article in the Magix magazine said to press shift then drag across both tracks and they should both turn orange, then drag and drop, however, when I try this only one track turns orange the other shows yellow and when I try to drag and drop the sound is always left behind.  I've been at this for ages, maybe I've just got a dud software and need to return it?

I did try both of your suggestions too, but the results were the same, the sound doesnt transfer.  The problem seems to do with the issue that they won't both turn orange. But I can't figure out why.

I don't much use takes but was curious about saving a 'group'. A group of three video clips got saved as three separate takes same a selecting the three without grouping. More interesting was the result of saving an audio/video grouped pair as Terry suggested. Look see...

The group has a audio/video offset, but the take aligns their starts.

Sandy,

To group the original video (track 1) and the new audio (track 2) just start outside both and then drag a rectangle anywhere that overlaps with both. You don't need to hold the Shift key. However, when I did so it made no difference, both objects were still selected. BTW, I don't know why you're doing any 'drag and drop'?

If you still have no joy then I think we're going to need full details and screenshots of what you're doing.

'...when I try this only one track turns orange the other shows yellow.'

Like the two in tracks 1 & 2 shown in my screen shot below? (I'm a bit color blind) I'd say they are different colors because 'sct_dark...' was clicked on first and then changed color when I added 'carl_cam...' to the selection. Note though both show .mpg file type, 'sct_dark.mpg is just the audio taken from a video clip. I should have done a display wave form first to make that clearer.

Both [Shift + click] to add to a selection (standard Windows behavior) or drag an including rectangle around a piece of each should work. Are you clicking the linked chain 'Group' icon? Then the group should move as a single object.

Strange behaviour indeed guys.

Saving the take with offset audio realigns the audio with the Picture start, here too, whether I save as takes or drag and drop.

I thought a way around might be to "File > Batch Conversion" the timeline objects but while it mantains sync, it stops the audio at the end of the picture!! It's a lose - lose situation.

Only alternative in the above scenario would be to "export > range only" each take. Bit clumsy though.

Isn't that Ctrl+Click to add to a selection Carl (Picky picky...).

I think the colours are unimportant and only help to identify the different types of objects.

Yes, of course, picky picky!  but...

In the special case of selecting just the very next one on the list, Shift+Click and Ctrl+Click do the same thing!

Hi, thanks again for your time.  I tried dragging a rectangle around both objects, new sound and visuals, both light up one orange, one yellow, I go to edit-save as takes but when I then go to takes and click on the image the visuals come up on the monitor and on the timeline but minus the sound!   I can't show a screen shot at the moment as my camera is in repair, under warrenty.  Seems like it never rains but it pours.

Hi all, So I loaded Magix pro onto a separate laptop and tried using the template materials.. When I do this the separate sound and visuals can be linked  together and when I drag a rectangle round both they both light up  orange, however, when I go to EDIT then SAVE OBJECTS AS TAKES I get   " can not open takes file" even though I have the file open in IMPORT . So, altough it is not the same problem, It still won't transfer the material to takes.   Not sure what to do.  It occurs to me that it may be a compatibiltiy issue with the computors.  I've got a Dell desktop and a  Toshiba laptop.  The Magix software definitely appears more stable on the laptop but the desktop has more memory etc.  Any suggestions?
