Hi...I am a very new user. I am making a music video. I have 2 different videos of the same song. ie) two different camera angles. I am using Movvie Edit Pro MX. They both have been cropped and synced up with a master audio track. How do I switch or transition between them to make my new video...?  I'm pretty close I think I just need a few tips..... thx !!!

If you have the Plus or Premium version of MEP MX you have multicam editing built in. Just put your two videos on lower, higher number, tracks and click on the double camera icon. The preview window changes to two panes showing  simultaneously the two source videos. You click back and forth as you like and and the pieces you have selected get arranged in tracks one and two.

Otherwise... Probably lots of work flow options but I'd suggest:

Place your two source videos on and two tracks and use 'Effects' >> 'Size and position' to arrange them so that both are visible in the preview window.

Start playing until you come to each potential transition point, stop playback and hit the [T] key. This will make cuts in both video if neither of them is currently selected.

eg AAA|A|AAAAAAA|AA|AA

BBB|B|BBBBBBB|BB|BB   (sorry fonts sizes don't line up)

Continue to the end and then drag the bits you are going to use alternately from the two videos and place them onto a new track.

eg AAA|B|AAAAAAA|BB|AA

Select all and right click to get to 'Video effects' >> 'Clear video effects' so that they are returned to full frame size. for a first preview with the sources tracks muted. You can if you wish delete what remains of the source tracks. Remember that MPE is non destructive -- your original clips are intact!

At this stage all the transitions will be jump cuts which are easy to adjust as dragging the line between will shorten one clip and lengthen the other. And cross fades etc is much more of a challenge as it is usually applied by dragging one clip across another (on the same track) which will shorten to total length. I'd drag a piece down, lengthen it as necessary (maybe at both ends) , and then drag it striaght up to give the transition(s).

A untested thought -- if you group a copy of your master audio to each of your source videos prior to making the cuts, it might help checking that you haven't lost sync as you will hear alternately between the two sources.

Hope this help some,

Regards,

Carl

Hi

As Carl says if you have Plus or Premium version look at pages 114 onwards in the installed pdf manual - there are instructions on how to use the multicam editing function.

@ Carl - good technique for non multi cam version of MEP
