how do i save a custom dvd template

In movie edit pro 17, how does one edit a dvd menu template to suit and then save the template to reuse it? I have tried using "last template" as was suggested in another user's question, but it seems like last template doesn't save any text or additional menu pages that were created in the template.

Hi,

You can't actually save the template and its entire configuration as an independent entity, which IMO is an obviously desirable facility. Rather like templates in Word and Excel.

But you can achieve the same objective, albeit wasteful in resources. Just save the project with an appropriate name.

For example, if you're working in the project Holiday2012.MVP and you have set up template 'Sparkles' in a certain way, save it as say Holiday2012-Sparkles-01.MVP.

Obviously this assumes you have finished all project editing and are now working only on the menu. To use a different template, open the appropriate project saved earlier, closing the current one.

John8 & Terry,

Well actually you can:

In a new project I customized a temple with my (quick!) choice of background, title font and color. This project was saved. I started an entirely new project and in the DVD menu window found my artistic effort displayed in the 'Last templates' tab at the bottom, though with no reference to its parent project title. Double click, wait a few moments, and there is my previous 'saved' temple in effect with the current project title in place.

Further, obscurely, the temple is saved as an independent entity in a folder with an arbitrary name (this one is called lt_21870)  under ...\MAGIX\...\DVD\lastlayout. Location may vary with OS -- this machine has VPX running under XP. The folder contains a copy of the background image, a preview image and the .tmpl template definition file. You could presumably copy user defined templates from other versions of MEP into your current one.

Regards,

Carl

Nice work, Carl, I stand corrected!

This seems to be a 'You can -- sort of."

I've tried briefly between VPX 2.5 and MEP 14 Plus, and between those two and MEP 2013 Premium with mixed results. Worst case gives lots of 'OK' error boxes from dvdmaker and the best of the temples I tried is having the movie background image only showing on the chapter menu pages but otherwise fine. I'd guess a lot depends on exactly what items have been customized, but at least worth a try.

Notes: You have to save a project for its template to be added to the lastlayout folder. Also I've just begun using the 'Apply' menu options. You can use settings from any selected template for your entire project or limit the application to a single page. New to me so probably everyone else has been using the feature for years! :-)
