Hi,
I have run into a problem trying to precisely synchronize video and audio tracks in MEP 15 and MEP 16.
When I record videos I don't like to rely on the camera's internal microphone because it often doesn't provide as good of a sound quality as a dedicated Hi-Fi stereo sound recorder. So I often film the same way professional filmakers do, by recording the video and audio tracks seperately and then trying to sychronize them in MEP 16. I do this by allowing the camera's microphone to record an audio track as it usually does but also recording a seperate audio track at the same time.
I use a clapperboard or another loud sound like they do in hollywood productions to provide a visual and audio reference point to synchronize the video and audio. I then load both the video and audio into MEP 16 on tracks 1 and 2 for the cameras video and audio tracks and track 3 for the audio track that I will use to replace the cameras audio. I use the cameras audio track waveform graph and the sound recorders waveform graph to try and synchronize the new audio and the old audio by aligning the sound of the clap from the clapperboard just as they do in professional productions.
Here's where I run into a problem. Even when I zoom the timelime to the 1 frame setting or even zoom beyond 1 frame, I can't seem to EXACTLY align the new audio with the old audio, The "clap" mark on the waveform graphs for the old and new audio seem to be off from each other by slightly less than a frame but will not PRECISELY align with each other. There seems to be some sort of a SNAP function that forces the new audio track to SNAP to either slighty to the left or slightly to the right of the frame that holds the original audio tracks "clap" cue.
This means that when I switch off the cameras original audio track and try to watch the video with just the new audio track enabled the video and audio are just slightly out of sync by a millisecond.
This is most noticable when someone is speaking and the persons lip movements are slightly out of sync with the audio.
I have looked all through the printed manuals, the online help system, the internet, and this forum to see if there is some way to turn off that snap to the frame start/end feature but I can't find any way to do it. I have not set any snap points of my own and I have also tried the "delete all snap points" feature under the EDIT menu, and that didn't work either.
Is there is a way to turn off that snap so I can align the audio with extreme precision? Or if it isn't possible to turn off that snap is there some other way that I can replace the old camera audio with the new audio track and still have it precisely aligned with lip movements in the video?
I'd really appriciate some help with this problem.
