I have only recently downloaded the program on to my computer and am having trouble finding out how to delete unwanted footage from the captured video. I am sure it is a simple procedure, but I can't find anything within the program to guide me.
In one sense, you can't, as MEP is a 'non-destructive editor'! If you make cuts and delete scenes on the timeline your export will have only what you chose to keep but your original clip is still intact on the hard drive.
So that's also your answer -- remove the unwanted stuff and export the remaining material. Do so preferably in the identical format as your original so that smart rendering can be done to speed the process. Be sure to give the export file a new name or you may run in to trouble with a MEP project that used the original and now finds the file no longer matches.
I've only done this once for some extended periods of shooting my foot -- camera left running as it hangs around my neck. With the steadily dropping prices of hard drives it's not worth the effort to save a few mega bytes.
The pdf manual was installed at the same time as the program.
It is located in your Start menu/button (depending on version of Windows you are using) , Magix, Documentation. As shown in this image is for MX Premium on Windows 7.
I presume when you say captured that you are using a tape format so it is pretty much as Carl has said.
The advantage of solid state recording cameras (SD Cards, HDDs) is that they record each take (clip) as a separate file. Unused clips can be deleted safely from the import folder you copied them to after you have made your movie if they have not been used in your movie.
If you go to "File > Settings > Movie.." and click the "Movie Information" Tab you will see a list of all the files currently being used in your open project. Deleting any of these will corrupt your project.
