How do I multi camera edit in Video Pro X

I am wanting to know how to multi cam edit in Video pro X.  More specifically, what is the process to link up 3 different camera angles of the same thing?  Is there any type of automation in the syncing up or do I have to use the clap board method?

I am using 3 realitively cheap HD cameras to capture the stage at church.  2 cameras are at the back (1 a wide angle, the other a closer view) and one from the side.  Not having done this before, I assume that I would just need to sync the software at the very beginning and then using the software cut to the different cameras.

I guess while I am talking about multiples, does Video Pro X have the ability to create DVD's to utilize the angle option?

Thank you.

Roger,

As a 'potential customer...', have you tried the free download demo version? Does everything except for maybe some of the licensed export codecs so you should be able to test the multi cam editing. The the VPX Help file -- top right main menu or [F1] keyboard shortcut answers your question pretty well:

It states there that there is automatic sync based on audio tracks of your sources: "Two video sources with sound tracks can be automatically synchronized using their audio material. To do this, use the "Align with other audio objects" function from the context menu of audio objects." (This from VPX 2.5). Help also notes that a clap board my be useful as well.

I don't know if the latest VPX supports multi view DVDs but suspect that it's, like multiple languages or subtitles, an advanced feature not available.

Carl

So if I have more than 2 cameras, I sync 2 cameras from 2 tracks, then sync another camera with one of the first 2 tracks?  And just continue on like that?

I'll admit, I looked briefly at the webpage for a trial link but appearently was blind.  However, when I went back to the page after cpc000cpc's post, I found the trial page link.  But the downlink on the trial page wasn't there.  There was the download text but not linked to anything.  So I still can't try it.

I also tried some links on the support page to see about talking to someone.  They took me to a page that said somethink like revamping the pages.  Odd that you wouldn't replace pages instead of taking them down.

I'm an entry level video guy, looking at something more capable than VideoStudio Pro X5.  Nothing wrong with VideoStudio as it has done everything I wanted, I just want to do some things that put me in the prosumer catagory.

It is difficult to find on-line info comparing this class of software.  Most of them are out dated completely and the ones that may have a latest release is comparing it to the others older releases.

I think I have it narrowed down to Video pro X and Vegas Pro from Sony.  It's hard for me to to try them even if I could (in the 30 days) as I don't really know what I am doing to begin with and don't have a current project in mind.  I just know I want to do multi cam for sure.  And I'd like to do more, whatever more turns out to be.

Thank you for the reply.

Roger,

Trackwise, #1 & #2 are left empty to receive the clips you select. You put your sources on tracks below. When you preview In mult-icam mode you'll see your source tracks in smaller windows. As play continues you click on any of the source mini windows and from that instant it's their material that get placed onto track #1. You usually nominate a 'master' audio track that is constant throughout.

On demo download, you might try both the US and the UK sites. Perhaps only one is down? Also consider MEP2013. It's limited to two source tracks but it would give you an idea of how it all works.
