How do I get these Movie Edit Pro MX Plus (download) features to work?

rickduley wrote on 4/28/2013, 7:27 PM

1.  Scene Detection is painfully slow when dealing with movies.  Scene Detection for "Beneath Hill 60" took all day and on after bed-time yesterday.  It took one hour (with nothing else running on my 3.2GHz Quad-Core on W7) just to go from clicking "OK" to having the scenes displayed.

2.  During Scene Detection there is a (supposedly) scrolling list of the scene positions by lapsed time.  It only ever shows the first seven scenes.

3.  During the break-out from OK to scene display there is no progress indicator which makes waiting an hour a pain.

4.  When editing ads out of a movie I select the transition "to dark".  There is no way to set the time taken for the transition - no way that does anything anyway.

Is this the usual experience, or is there something I am missing to get these things to work properly?

I have only tried this once and it is slow on long video.

You are using the wrong method - you should move the timeline cursor to the start of the section you want to remove and make a cut (T key) , reposition the timeline cursor to the end of the section you want to cut and press the Z key.  This will remove the section and close the gap.

You can set the length of transitions - after applying a transition, left click the transition button, bottom left of the clip, and select Set transition length

Have you read the installed manual available under Help ?

Hi John

Ref No. 4:

It's not doing the cut that is the problem.  Yes, I have even printed out the manual so I can read it, that's how I know how to do the cut.  It's when the cut is done that this problem arises.

I want to control the transition from one side of the cut to the other, and I select "to dark" as I said.  The problem is that there is no way I can find to control the length of the transition, i.e. the dark time between one scene and the other.  I right click on the selected transition to set properties, but it makes no difference.  There appears to be no noticeable period of darkness no matter how much time I select.

Hi

That is because there is no image or video object in between the cuts.

If you want a black transition ie Through black then you need to either :

1.  but the clips up to each other then drag the fade in / out handle at the beginning / end of each clip as shown in this image

and drag in the direction required.  The time of the fade through black transition will be the length of the fade out + length of the fade in.  You will also lose part of the end / beginning of each clip you apply this to.

2.  if you want a longer transition -  insert a black image between the clip and set the transitions to crossfade or as above - you can then set the length of the transition as I posted before and the length of the image to give the total fade time
