How do I get separate clip titles in the title splash screen?

rickduley wrote on 9/10/2012, 7:41 PM

I am burning two (or three) separate documentaries to a single disc.  I think I should be able to have the main title splash screen show the titles of the individual programs and allow their separate selection.  For the life of my I can't figure out how.

I can get individual titles at the start of each clip, but I can't select one program from a list.

Is there a way, and, if so, how?

Thanks

Hi Rick,

As you see in this screenshot, you first need to open the Edit mode and then uncheck 'Film menu'.

Your main (and only) menu then looks like this, allowing you to run each 'chapter' separately.

Hi Terry

Thanks for that answer but I am still confused.

How do I get the three submenus up in the first place?

Hi Rick,

I assumed you had 3 movies on the timeline, each with a Chapter mark. In fact that could hardly be avoided, because you get a message about chapter marks when you change to Burn mode.

I'm not sure of your experience level? Have you made any menus before? What exactly did you do in this case?

Those 'sub-menus' are initially made by MEP at the exact points on the timeline corresponding to the places at which the chapter marks are placed. Either automatically or manually by you. Then you can adjust by right-clicking each of them and choosing Properties. All as described in Help or in the PDF manual.

Hi Rick

Also see my answer in this post if you want individual movies and chapters in each, or each movie to play once and return to the menu.

Terry's technique is better if you want all the movies to play one after the other ie if you start at 1 and then want 2 and 3 to play imediately after, or if you start at 2 then 3 and any other subsequent 'movie' will also play

Hi John,

That's a neat technique, but I don't seem able to avoid also getting an unwanted 'Chapters' menu. The facility to uncheck 'Film menu' as in my simpler but less flexible method is no longer allowed in this case.

Can you explain what you mean by this please.

The point of the the technique is to give multiple indvidual movies complete with their relevant chapter pages on one disc.

Hi John,

My test made the assumption that Rick wanted to run the 3 movies without any chapters. I was having trouble getting just a single main menu with no chapter menu, but I've sorted that now thanks. (I'd left a couple of chapter markers to the right of one of the movies.)

Maybe Rick will return and make his requirement clearer.

Terry was unsure of my experience level.  Well, it's at the bottom of the limbo - that's why I ask dumb questions like this.

Thanks for all the help but you guys are getting way, WAY, ahead of me.  Let's get a bit more basic.

This issue seems to revolve around "Chapter Markers".  How do I insert chapter markers?  I can't find anything in "Help" that tells me.

Perhaps when I can solve that I will be getting somewhere/

Hi Rick,

You didn't specify what version of MEP you're using. See this sticky post:
http://www.magix.info/uk/please-do-the-following-before-posting-your-question.forum.621831.html

But in all versions that I can recall both the Help and the PDF manual include easily found descriptions of chapter markers. I'll use MEP MX Plus as an example.

Both are accessible in the usual way:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4019461/MEP-ChapterMarkers-Documentation.jpg

In Help, the Contents, Index and Search all lead directly to the required detailed information:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4019461/MEP-ChapterMarkers-Help-Contents.jpg
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4019461/MEP-ChapterMarkers-Help-Index.jpg
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4019461/MEP-ChapterMarkers-Help-Search.jpg

Same for the PDF manual. Either use the Contents or enter 'chapter marker' in the Search box:
https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4019461/MEP-ChapterMarkers-PDF.jpg

If you need further help after studying these basics, please come back with full details on exactly what you're trying to achieve.

Thanks for that, Terry.

I am headed for New Zealand to see my grandkids in a couple of days and will get back to working with Movie Edit Pro MX Plus (download version) on my return.  Leave this as is for a while and I'll restart with a new question if I need to when I get back.

Thanks to all who contributed.

Thanks to you folk I have finally had success in getting individual titles and access to individual chapters from the menu.

The final key was that you can only insert Chapter Markers from the Timeline Mode.  I had been working from the Storyboard Mode.

The other trick was to change the size of the title text from 0 to 18.  I picked that up coincidentally :)

Anyway - thanks for your help and your patience.
