Yes, the Vita instruments only cover their "natural" range.  I can think of a couple of options.

One would be to find a virtual guitar that does go down to B0.

The other is possible, but may not give you the pleasant results you're looking for.

You can create a separate MIDI track that covers ONLY the notes on the seventh string as played on the sixth string.  Then, in the object menu you can choose "MIDI Transpose" or use the Transpose knob in the Instrument Editor.  As you can probably imagine, transposing an instrument that far will result in a less than ideal tone.

BTW....Are you talking "acoustic" or "electric"?

Procyon,

Thank you very much for your response!

When you say, "find a virtual guitar...", do you mean outside of Samplitude--if so, how would I do that?

Your other idea sounds like a way to go.  I could just keep the one track too [i think], it would only be 5 half-tones down from E--I would only be missing the 5 notes on the high end.

This is for an electric guitar part.

Yes, I meant outside of Samplitude.  There are all kinds of free VST plug-ins you can add to your arsenal.

If you stick to guitar emulations, you might be stuck with standard six-string tuning range, but I can't say for sure.  I did find find a sting emulator (String Thing 2) that does a decent acoustic guitar and has a range that exceeds a standrad guitar tuning.  I didn't try the 'Strat-A-Various' yet since you didn't say you were looking for an electric guitar sound.

Here's a selection of free VST guitar/string plug-ins for Windows...

If you have a Mac or need a different format, go to the main database page to do a new search...

There's a ton of VST synths out there that can be had for free.  Fun stuff!

Here are a few other possible options...

'Strat-A-Various' IS capable of playing down to B0 and below in Vita.  Whether it can give you the sound you want is up to you.

Procyon got me thinking about transposing...

I found that turning the VITA Mastertune knob all the way down (i.e., -12.00 st. Is this 12 quarter steps?) shifts my E down to a B [is this called 4th?], which is exactly what I need.  So, I can just write every thing in E/Em and turn the Mastertune knob to -12.00 st.  The lower, the more EVIL, eh?!;)

I hope someone else finds this useful!:)

Hey...as long as it works and makes you happy, I say go for it!

I assume such a severe transposition still gives you the kind of tone your looking for then, eh?

Yes, it sounds fine.  And it's not that critical, because I'm just creating the MIDI parts to get an idea of how it'll sound.  I'm replacing these tracks with the final recorded guitar tracks.  Thanks again for your help!
