How do I connect my piano keyboard to my computer? MAGIX MUSIC MAKER 2013

Okay, so here's my problem. I have a MIDI to USB interface converter thing and I have tried to connect it to my Yamaha Clavinova and computer and I don't think my computer recognizes it. Where do I go on my computer to find if it has been detected? I have also tried to find it on MAGIX Music Maker 2013 and I don't know what to put in the boxes after I push "P." How do I record what I play on my piano to MM? Please, PLEASE help me! (If possible, please walk me through the process:))

My computer is Toshiba Windows 8, Model: Satellite C855D, 4GB RAM

64 bit-operating system, x64-based processor

MAGIX Music Maker 2013 (purchased yesterday) (includes the 'Best of Soundpool DVD Collection)

Now, don't get mad.....it will be much to your advantage to learn what all those buttons on the "P" page stand for, then you won't have to ask so many questions....not that you have yet....does your PC have a soundcard ?  Go to devices and see...look for Audio anything and see where that leads you.  You might have to download a driver, you might have to get a different connection cord as the plugs on the end of the cord might not fit your jacks...if you have any of those....you see, lots of possibilities ....but this is doable....just have to figure it out.

That would depend on whether you plan on recording the Clavinova's voices, or simply using the Clav as a MIDI keyboard controller to play software instruments (VSTi).  Please clarify.

Using a MIDI to USB converter implies that you are using the Clav as a MIDI controller.  In this case, in your Sound settings, you have to select the Clavinova as the "MIDI Recording Device".  If you cannot find the Clav on the list, you may need to check the Yamaha website for the appropriate driver.

Procyon  to the rescue....Please follow his advice and congratulations on trying to learn more about Magix.  I have been using the software for 7 years now and still have much to learn.  Try to visit the community often, you can find lots of help and questions already answered that might apply to you downstream.  I have learned a great deal.
