Hi,

File, New Project. Enter a new project name. It may ask you to save your existing open project. Then you have a new blank project. You cannot have no project; you have to have one with a name, because as soon as you start to do certain tasks, temporary files are created using the project name.

"You cannot have no project".  That does explain it, I will just have to get used to it because I used to close the program I was working on before opening a new one.  I appreciate you clearing this up for me.  Thanks.

I will just have to get used to it because I used to close the program I was working on before opening a new one.

If your project consists of only one movie then you can just hit Ctrl+F4. That  deletes the existing movie and leaves you with an empty, black main wndow, which might be closer to your familiar work flow. Then continue as John said and open a new project.

But John's sequence File > New Project (or just Ctrl+n) is not only neater and achieves exactly the same result but it covers any project, including those with mutiple movies (tabs).

when I click on the X tab on a move it says it will delete the movie.  does that mean from the screen/program, from the project or LITERALLY delete the movie?  Can someone point me to a discussion about managing Projects and Movies and the relationships.  I read the help and am still confused.  I sure miss the good ole days of printed manuals.

And thanks for clearing up the fact that there is no Close choice.  I do find that maddening.

Hi,

This thread is 2 years old. You should have started a new one. Watch my tutorials, first on , and then . You need to understand all about Projects, Movies, Chapters, Tracks, Objects, etc., and read the manual - you have F1 which is the same as the pdf file that you have and can print out, but I much prefer electronic as it's easier to do searches.

Actually, I think that there is a way, but there is no need, you either exit (and Save or Save As) or start a new project. You should always have a project name to start.

Once you have reviewed the tutorials, come back and open a new thread with the next questions.
