How come the tracks pitch up when I start to record audio?

It never fails and it's frustrating. I lay down the tracks I want to sing with. Click on record and everything speeds up and sounds like it's like three octaves higher. I've tried everything and nothing works. This is the last time I spend money on a wannabe DAW.

@ronthetech Have you checked the sample rate in your project settings?

For example, if your microphone records in a sample rate of 24 kHz but your project is set to 48 kHz your recording will run at twice the speed.

Normal sample rates should be at 44.1 kHz (old CD standard) or 48 kHz.
