How can I synchronize audio to video?

Former user wrote on 11/22/2012, 9:57 AM

When I click on Load available video files/Import file from the Record screen, I see my hlr200 file under the Magix MEP16 heading. When I run the cursor over it, the 10-minute video plays perfectly - perfectly synchronized. But after opening it in the Magix video monitor in order to edit it, the movie goes out of sync progressively toward the last five minutes.

All I want to do with this video is to delete the current opening and end titles and put new titles in their place. I also want to insert four chapter markers. I know how to do these easy tasks. But of course there is no point in doing this if the movie is out of sync.

Is there a way to correct the synchonization as I edit the movie? If I order the newer MEP 2013, would that possibly correct the problem? I want to create a good master disc.

Hi,

If you export the movie as a video file and play it, does it go out of sync when you play is back in say media player?

If the master is truly out of sync, you are going to need to find where it goes out of sync and split the audio track at that point to get it back in sync.  Hopefully you have a music sound track running behind the speaking part that is out of sync to cover the split and possibly the gap.  Anything you do with the audio track, make sure that you export the original audio as mp3 or wav so that you have it as a backup.  Also all audio synchronization work should take place at the frame level, and set your undo settings for the program setting under the system tab to at least 25, 30 is better just so you can get back if you make a mistake along the way.  Editing audio especially sycynchronization problems is actually much harder than editing video and takes time and patience.

If you want to upload a copy of the video with the audio out of sync to youtube I will have a look at it and see if I can find anything quick and obvious.  You can upload it as "unlisted" that way only people with the link can view it (don't upload as "private" as that has its own set of problems in youtube) and send me a private message with the link.  I will be going on vacation on Saturday for 10 days so if you want to take me up on this you probably need to to it fairly quickly.

Good Luck,

George

If the sync issues is evenly progressive you might simple ungroup it from the video and using 'stretch' mouse mode drag the audio in/out to match the video. MEP can do this without changing the pitch.

Hi

Is your MEP 16 patched up to the last patch available for this version - IIRC this issue occurred with video with a 29.97/30fps framerate and was fixed.

What is the source of the video file?

John

George, I clicked the Online tab to access the Youtube form. I see only the Private and Public options. And on the Export settings I see PAL, HDTV, and Standard. You said to use "unlisted." Tell me what to do. I've never posted anything to Youtube before.

John said there was a patch for my version of MEP. How do I get that? Would it do any good?

Hi,

To get the patch which according to what John mentioned may solve the problem, go to https://support2.magix.com/customer/en

Then scroll down to the bottom of the page and log in using your Magix account information.

Go to the downloads section, then select Movie Edit Pro (the version that you purchased) and download and install the patch near the bottom of the screen.

As for youtube, I set the privacy setting to unlisted during the download process per the screenshot below.

I hope the patch works but if not my offer still is available to you.

George, I downloaded the patch for my version of MEP. This probably won't solve my problem though.

I tried to download my video to YouTube but had no success. From the Record Screen the video with the file hlr200 was in the monitor. On the Online tab I clicked on YouTube and filled out all the information. Then I got the form in which to enter my username and password. After I did this the form kept appearing with the password box blank. I can use the same username and password to get into my YouTube account. Can you suggest how I can get that video to you.

It get progressively out of sync from beginning to end. There is no one spot where the problem begins. The stages are imperceptible but the cumulative effect is evident about 3/4 through the video.

Fooling around with the program, trying to do simple editing tasks, has helped me gain some knowledge of the MEP. It would be neat if I could get the 10-min video in sync. Then I could get on to other small projects that I'd like to put on my two websites.

Hi Tommy,

Don't use MEP to upload to YouTube.  Export your movie using the export tab in MEP to your computer.  First click "Export" on the top right hand corner of your screen, then click on the right under format, and choose windows media, then go over to the left and click on the drop down under "quality" and choose "Web Quality".  Next click "Save Video" give the file a name and save it to somewhere you will remember and click save.

Go on line and log in to your youtube account and click "upload videos".  Click on the file you have saved and click OK.  While the file is uploading, click on the privacy setting drop down box and set it to "unlisted".  Once the video has finished uploading go to your video manager, double click on the video and copy the url and send it to me via private message.

I exported the ten-minute video, which was progressively out of sync on the MEP monitor, to Windows Media Player. On WMP it played perfectly - everything in perfect sync. Then I burned a DVD using the MEP function. The DVD was perfect too. I used six generic chapters for the Menu. Now I'll have to read through the Burn discs/Menu material on the Help tab so that perhaps I'll be able to make a professional-looking menu.

But still when I look at the video in the editing screen it gets progressively out of sync. It's puzzling that the video and audio are not right on the monitor but exactly right when I burn a DVD. Maybe I'll figure out something, or maybe I just need to upgrade to a newer version of MEP.
