How can I speed up and slow down a video clip in two or three places within the same clip?

The video is appro 3 minutes long but there are only three areas in the video that i wish to be a regular speed.  so I want to speed up to area (1) and then play at regualr speed for a fw seconds, then speed up again to areas 2 and 3 an repeat.

I have found the "speed" setting but it only controls the entire clip. I want to choose were I speed up and slow down a number of times in the same clip.

Any suggestions?

ecoclean,

Many effects can be varied within a clip by using key frame animation, but speed is unfortunately not one of them -- as you presumably already know. I think the only way to do this is to simply make cuts  use [T] key at cursor position) at the beginning and at the end of each area you want to change. Then select this area and make your speed change.

If the change is too abrupt you could create a smaller section before and after your designated area, and only change the speed there by about half.
