How can I extract objet from video

joserobles1941 wrote on 4/11/2016, 11:24 PM

I hope this is not a silly question.

Is there a way to extract an object  or image from a video like erasing the background and leaving the object alone so it can be placed on another video?  I have Movie Edit Pro 2015 Deluxe Premium and Photo and Graphis Designer 11 installed on my PC.

I know you can do this with Chroma Key but only if background is green, blue or  black.  I was thinking of coloring background with those colors and  then apply Chromakey,  I have some short videos of my grandchildren and I would like to place their images on different settings.

Thanks for your help

Hi José,

That is an excellent question!

See this message and watch the video. Also, take a look through the entire thread.

Unfortunately, Magix broke the thing and it hasn't worked since Xara 9, 32 bit version.

You can try it with Xara P&GD 11 to see if it works. The video will probably not advance in the Xara animation as it used to. You will end up with only a static mask. Good for non-moving objects or objects that move but don't change shape. A workaround is to key frame the mask using size and position.

The use of Xara for graphic and animation overlay is covered in the MEP manual. I and others have complained since Xara X10 came out and Magix always makes some excuse, like do a syscheck, and then finally admits that they are aware of the problem and that it will be fixed in a patch. This has been going on for more than 2 years.

If it doesn't work for you, raise a ticket with Xara. They will say that it's a problem with Magix. Insist that it's a problem with Xara, and since Xara is owned by Magix, they should fix it.

Since you're beyond your 1 year limit with MEP, you can't raise a free ticket with them.

When it works, this is a very powerful feature of MEP and I can't understand why Magix doesn't fix it.

Let us know how you make out.

Hi John C.B.

Thanks for answering so rapidly.

This is the first thing I want to do right now -  express my thanks.  I will do as you advise and keep you posted.   Please bear with me since I am just learning to operate both programs so I might not be able to grasp things as fast and thoroughly as some of you guys.

Hi

I know you can do this with Chroma Key but only if background is green, blue or  black.

Not so.........You can get rid of any coloured or a range of colours / shades  provided they are different to the object you want to keep. Click the "Colour" button next to the Stamp button at the top of the chroma Key window then use the pippette tool to draw a marquee on the colours in the background which will turn grey stripey, then adjust the sliders to get the best effect.
