How Can I Edit Intros and Outros?

ChiefGeek wrote on 11/16/2016, 10:04 PM

Hello.  I'm trying to edit an intro (Tickling) in MEP16 Plus, and can't figure it out.  Basically it gives you three lines of text.  I want to make the center line bigger and the top and bottom lines bigger also, but not as much.  I try changing the font size in the editing box, but then it changes only the size of the fonts on the top and bottom.  It also displays the font type of the top and bottom, but not the middle.  I thought maybe highlighting the middle font would allow me to edit it alone, but it doesn't work that way.

Anyway, I'm kinda stuck and am hoping someone more advanced can help me out.  There's quite a few Intro's and Outro's I'd like to edit, but there's not a built in editor, at least as far as I can tell.

Thank you everyone...

- Steve

Hi Steve,

Just to clarify for others, this is a Title Intro and not a Movie Intro.

I couldn't modify it much either, so I made my own.

First, do the title. Select it. Use the shortcut  -  and copy the effects. You can see these effects by going to Effects, and going under Video effect or View/Animation. They will show up under the key framing part.

Next, create your own 3 line title. The fonts used are:

- Lines 1 and 3 = Bellota

- Line 2 = Dancing script

Select the text of each line and change the font and size. Accept the changes. With the text box selected but not opened, paste the effects using the shortcut  Shift+-

that is the minus key.

You now have the same effect. You can see them under the Effects tab as I indicated.

With your new title still selected, do a right-click and select Save as Title Template. It should be saved under:

C:\ProgramData\MAGIX\Movie Edit Pro 2016 Premium\Titles\Standard

Give it a short descriptive name.

Click on the Title tab, Templates, Own and you should see your new effect that you can now easily modify.

Remember that under effects, you can modify the effects.

Thanks John!  I'm going to work on this later tonight after I get the girls (10 and 7) to bed.  Kinda crazy you can't just edit and save with some kind of a simple editor.  Oh well.  I like Magix for the most part, but there are a few crazy things that bug me about it, this being one.

I wish there was an advanced training course for the software too.  I'd even pay Magix or someone else for a super in depth video training course.  I looked for one on my favorite training site, Udemy.com, but nothing.  Not a lot of training videos (other than newb stuff) on YouTube either.

Maybe your calling John?  ;)

Thank you again for taking the time to do this, that was awesome.

Hi Steve,

This was a strange one as I couldn't modify the text in Preview monitor plus the other problems that you mentioned.

One other thing, Magix uses Directional Blur, and I can't find that effect. Maybe someone else reading this has another solution. I have noted this away so that I can use the directional blur effect again, I just can't modify it. However, I do have all of the Pixelan effects and can duplicate the effect or do better (or worse).

You will find a lot of information about various things by looking at the tutorials under the Tutorials tab and by looking under the Forum tab......Movie Edit Pro and scrolling through. When you find interesting ones, click on Add to Notepad at the bottom of the message so that you can find them easily under your profile information page.

There are some very good discussions in the Forum with methods about titles, collages, key framing, transitions, Chromakeying, and some other effects. You just have to hunt for them.

Another good way to learn is to take the Magix effects and look to see how they did them. Many of them can be ungrouped and modified. Etc.

There is a lot in the manual, but trying out everything helps a lot.

I submitted another tutorial last week but it hasn't been posted yet. It is very basic. And, I have almost completed another one about Movie Templates. Again, it's basic, but there are some good tricks. I will keep doing some tutorials as time allows.

There is also excellent help from several of the other forum members, especialy the moderators, so when you have a question, post it and add in enough detail about what you want to do or are trying to do. Someone will reply.

Hi John C.B.

One other thing, Magix uses Directional Blur, and I can't find that effect.

Interesting point. This is used in MEP2016 and 2017 in the "Effect Transitions" where it sets a variety of directional blurs to the clip on each side of the transition and adds keyframes set to 0 effect at the start and finish of the transition. There is little chance to change the parameters of the effect except to move the KF's, which need to be moved if you try to change the preset length of the Fade.

VPX is different and a full set of controls is available under a new heading "Directional Blur" in the "Video Effects > Sharpness" effect window of the Mediapool. Here you can control or create Linear, Zoom and Rotational blur and adjust Level, Quality, Angle and alignment.

I cant seem to find any reference to the these new effects in the manuals or Help files. Same thing with the Mask Generator, etc. in MEP2017 which I can not fathom at present!

Peter

@Peter,

Thanks for the explanation and for pointing out that directional blur is in VPX. I've rarely scrolled down on the sharpness page and didn't notice the Directional blur effects. I looked in the manual and they call it "Directed blur." Something new to play with.
