How can I correct Microsoft Sound Mapper-A device ID has Been used that is out of range for your system. Cleaning Lab 16

Error messae pops up "Microsoft Sound Mapper Not.......A device ID has been used that is out of range for you system". No sound getting to Cleaning Lab 16 Deluxe. How to fix.

It appears to me that Cleaning Lab 16 will only work with Realtek AC97 Audio sound card. This is ok with windows xp however I upgraded to Windows 8.1 and my trouble started. So far I have been unalble to download Realtek AC97 to my computer. There are no sound cards showing up in the sound card window in Cleaning Lab record window.

Any suggestions?

Is this an older computer that you have upgraded to Windows 8.1?

If so then there are no AC97 Windows 8 drivers.

My recommendation would be to get a modern Reltek HDA audio card and install this in the computer and disable the onboard audio.

However if you search the Internet there are several other solutions offered which may help - but are not guaranteed and if you follow any of them you do so at your own risk.
