High quality and high compression parameters for Youtube? 5 min 30 segs --> 28 MB

Hi

I've started to use Movie Edit Pro 2016 premium and I find it very well organized and every easy to use, however, I have a problem, and it is I don't find the best compression parameters to produce high quality files with high compression, like in Camtasia.

The best rates I've found using other software, like MAGIX VEGAS was using Windows Media Video, however, I don't see Movie Edit Pro be able to export to WMV.

What format and what compression parameters do you recommend me to match the Camtasia standards?

In Camtasia, I am able to produce 5 min 30 seconds, 1280 x 720, 25 fps, to just 28 Megabytes.

How may I produce the same results with Movie Edit Pro?

It would be great the software has some assistants to guide you in the compression process to emulate the high quality and low size settings from Camtasia.

Cheers

Hi, those settings are the recommended to upload with the general quality settings, but are not settings oriented to get high quality and low size. For example, they don't talk about using windows media video, and with that file format you save a 50% or more in size, getting the same quality you would get in a mp4

My question was oriented to advices and recommendations to get the maximum quality possible in a mp4 with the lowest possible file size, and that, is not covered in the page you suggested me.

Hi Javier,

Comment on Window Media Video - in MEP2016 Plus/Premium and prior versions, Ctrl+Alt+V, Windows Media Export which gives you a wmv file. Look at the formats under File, Export.

For MP4, select it from the list, click on Display all in the presets and select the same format,  1280x720, 25fps, from the list, then click on the advanced button and change the settings to whatever it was that you had (bt didn't state) in Camtasia.

John EB pointed you to YouTube parameters, not Magix, undoubtedly because if you are uploading to YouTube you should use what YouTube recommends, and I don't think wmv is one of them. At least in my case, my uploads to YouTube are all mp4 files because that is what YouTube said to do, and I set the size, 1280x720, and then used the Magix defaults. I don't worry about trying to get a higher compression as I did not notice that YouTube has a restriction on file size, only run time of 15 minutes, unless you request more. Is file size a problem for you?

Now that you know that MEP and VPX can export to various formats, just like Vegas and Camtasia, perhaps you can indicate why you want to produce a high quality format (1280x720) and then reduce the quality.

I just did a test with MEP2016 Premium, movie of exactly 5:30:00 exporting to wmv and to mp4 using the default parameter for each, but 29.97 as the frame rate. I had about a dozen video clips and a dozen photos, no effects or titles. File size for mp4 = 182.59 MB ( I selected mp4 Web 1280x720 as the preset), wmv = 435.14MB, thus much larger than mp4.

Hi

In addition to my prevoius post recommending using the YT settings in MEP, there is an issue over which you have no control - YT will automatically upgrade / downgrade the quality depending on the device that is viewing the video and its Internet connection speed - see here.

YT does support WMV however the preferred format is MP4 with either the MPEG-2 or h.264 codec  - see here - and MP4 has the higher compression and better quality.
