Does Movie Studio 17 import HEVC? I have 14, and the new 2023 studio, but like the older programs better and may purchase . Tired of having to convert every video with Handbrake.
@David-Farmer Hi, can you clarify which program you are asking about?
Vegas Movie studio (Movie Studio 17....?) was a scaled-down version of Vegas Pro. It was developed by Sony for its first 13 versions. It was sold in Sony's larger 2016 sale of much of its creative software suite to Magix who developed Versions 14 to 17. Magix would later discontinue VEGAS Movie Studio in 2021, in favor of the unrelated Magix Movie Studio.

On the HEVC side I mainly use Vegas Pro but have the latest Magix Movie Studio & both programs work with HEVC without problems.

Curious but where are you planning on getting VMS17? I don't know if that version is still available.
VMS17 is an old program & I doubt it works well with HEVC files. Vegas Pro 22 (VP22) is the latest Vegas version & it wasn't until Vegas Pro 21 (released - 2023 I think) that HEVC started working correctly after some quite major updates. Up until then it was recommended to convert the files to AVC before importing, after that VP21 update I swapped my phone settings to record in HEVC rather than AVC so they are the same format as my GoPro camera that only creates HEVC files. In other words since VP21 I only use HEVC files.
Like I say I use VP22 but when I occasionally use Magix Movie Studio 2025 HEVC work well, I can't spk for everyone of course,
