Having a problem with wavy lines across video using Rescue Your Video Tapes version 7

Hi,

Just purchased Rescue Your Video Tapes 7 and I'm converting 8mm and Hi 8 to digital and downloading it to

my computer using windows 10. I'm using an old Sony handycam and some of the tapes are very old. I'm

hooking up the Rescue Tapes capture hardware device using an S video cable (I have tried the composite

cable also). With everything hooked up and power on to the camera (but not playing) there are bands of lines

running through the preview window and I'm getting somewhat similar lines on the captured video.

The appearance of these lines are similar to how the image would look if a tracking head of a VCR was

out of adjustment. I have cleaned the head of the camera, no help. I don't understand why there would be

lines running across the screen of the preview window with just the power on to the camera and it not playing.

When I hook the camera up to a TV and play the video tape, the picture is clear with no lines or distortion.

Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi

The symptons you describe are syncing issues rather than tracking - check that you are capturing at the same framerate as the video has been recorded on tape.

Thanks for your reply. The Sony Handycam records at 29.970 f/s and that is what the Magix software is set at. Listed under General settings it shows: Video stream type: Mpeg-2, Resolution: 720x480, Frames /s 29.970, Aspec Ratio: 4:3 display, bitrate: 6000k bits/s, video encorder quality 4.

Under Gop structure: I frames:15,  Auto-Gop: VCSD,  close every nth Gop: 1

Suggestions?  Thanks.
