Have mEp plus 17 I see I can export as AVI MPG MPEG4 etc. but can only save it to the drive I'm working on... How do I export as an MPEG4 on another drive or directly to DVD as an AVI or MPEG etc so I can store files indefinitely

Have MEP17 plus want to export video file as AVI or MPEG MPEG4 directly to a hard drive or back up drive connected to my system and would also like to burn directly to DVD as an exported AVI MPEG etc...

This is simply for archiving

So that 10 years from now when I want to edit pieces of each video or re-edit

And. MAGIX is out of business or not compatible or I lose the SW I can upload the files to manipulate

I,m told AVI and MPEG formats are standard and all editing programs can read those formats    So why can't I figure out how to save thise types of files anywhere but my current c drive.?

Help....

I am trying specifically to go from XP to win 7 but I need to clear my XP partition of video files and get them to the backup drive for the future

I have both xp and windows runing on my comp now but cannot simply click one file over to the other partition so I must save these files on DVD then bring them over.  Then I want to put them in the back up drive as MPEG AVI etc....

Hi

For archiving put the original video on to archive media - I do not convert everything to avi or mpg.  You do not need MEP to do this.

I use external hard drives for archiving - video, projects etc are duplicated on 2 drives which are detached from the computer when not in use.

DVD's and Blu-Ray discs are too small for the quantity of video, images etc I need to archive.

. . . . I,m told AVI and MPEG formats are standard and all editing programs can read those formats . . . .

Yes and no - these are old standard video formats which may or may not be around in 10 years time - not all avi's can be read as they are not a video format avi is a container file and can have almost any video codec inside it.

Current standard video formats are AVCHD and any container file that can contain the H.264 format ie mp4, mov.

. . . . I have both xp and windows runing on my comp now but cannot simply click one file over to the other partition so I must save these files on DVD then bring them over.  Then I want to put them in the back up drive as MPEG AVI etc.... . . .

Do you have a second hard drive or external hard drive available?  If so copy all the files on to it using XP then switch to Windows 7 and copy them back .  In Win 7 if you get access denied on the hard drive you need to change the permissions of the folders/files - this is possibly what is stopping you copying partition to partition

If you must burn the files to DVD then you can use programs like Nero or ImgBurn (freeware)
