Grid editor won’t place notes.

tommy-kelley wrote on 6/15/2021, 10:45 AM

I had a issue come up where when I go into the grid editor of a midi track I can’t place notes with my mouse like I was able to before. It shows the note being placed as I drag it to make it longer and then when I let go of the mouse it disappears. None of the settings seem to help either. I’ve been using MM for awhile now and had no issues with this before. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hi

Is the mouse mode is set to write notes ie the Note pencil, and the MIDI track is not solo'd or locked?

the midi track isn’t solo’d and I’m not sure how to lock a midi track but even when I make a new one it does the same thing. I used to be able to add notes all I wanted but now it won’t let me. I attached a video of what happens

Hi

Thanks for the image and video clip - I cannot replicate this - what is the full name of the Music Maker you are using, and version number, as found under Help, About?

What changed between working and not working eg was the program updated?

If it was updated do you know the version number or full name prior to the update?

I don’t believe there was an update in between it working and not working. Just one day I realized it wasn’t working. Before I would just be able to open a blank grid and place notes in but the notes won’t stay anymore. I’m using Magix music maker 2021 premium. There is an update right now that just became available 29.0.6.36 after updating the problem still persists. I’ll also add that at the same time I started having this issue, it no longer automatically sets to my Asio driver when I start up the program. I have to go into my settings now and manually change it from “Magix low latency” and set an automatic back up time. Before it would automatically be on those settings when I closed and reopened the program.

@tommy-kelley

Version 29.0.6.38 has actually been available for several weeks so when you say it has just become available I wonder whether that suggests there is "something wrong" with the installation of the app on your computer? Can you confirm that it is fully activated and that you have previously downloaded ALL the additional content that is available to whichever variant you have? By the way, which variant, Basic, Plus or Premium, is it?

One further question: did you previously have a version of MM installed or was this current installation a new (to you) app? If you did have a previous version, did you update or upgrade to your current version? Because this version is the first 64 bit incarnation of the app Magix consider this to be a "new" product. Unlike earlier versions, to move from MM 2020 Premium or Plus (version 28) to MM 2021 Premium or Plus (version 29) it was necessary to pay for the upgrade. Merely updating (without paying) will now have given you the Free variant of MM 2021. If that is your situation, I suspect it may be the reason for your problem.

OTOH, if you have bought the upgrade to version 29, please disregard everything I've written!

It says music maker premium 2021 on the app but I bought it when it was 2020 so you’re saying I have to pay for an upgrade? *Edit* I’ve had premium for about a year now. Didn’t use it for a couple weeks and then came back to this issue. I did the newest update and it persists. I wasn’t aware I would need to upgrade to keep using it.

Another update: I just purchased the upgrade and there has been no changes. The app doesn’t even look different after installing. I feel robbed now :/

I wasn’t aware I would need to upgrade to keep using it.

Unfortunately, a number of users have been caught out by this situation!

However, have you entered the new serial number you would have received by email when you purchased the upgrade? (On the screen that says: "Enter your Music Maker 2021 serial number here".) That number is the key to unlocking all the features of the program that you previously had and will then allow you to download ALL the program components to complete the installation.

You don't need to upgrade to keep using it. There's clearly something weird happening with your installation if it keeps resetting the audio driver everytime you open it and the midi editor thing which I can't reproduce. I remember a few years ago some people had some problems with the midi editor but not in recent times.

Yeah I bought the upgrade and when I go to put in the serial number it tells me “something went wrong processing the payment” but according to my bank statement they took the money from me. Is there a way to contact the company directly to solve this? I can’t find anything online about getting in contact with Magix.

@tommy-kelley

Use this email address: infoservice@magix.net. Don't forget to include as much detail as you can about the purchase of the upgrade.
