Greenscreen working in preview but not in saved video

jonathon2124 wrote on 5/11/2013, 8:29 AM

Sorry if this is an easy fix. I am new to Magix and couldn't find an answer. I created a .jpeg greenscreen image to use in my video. I placed it in the video (actually 4 different images, all not working), used the chroma key effect and the preview came out just the way I wanted it. I saved it as a Windows video and was shocked when I watched the finished video...the greenscreen image showed completely--green and all.

I resaved it as an MPEG4 hoping this would fix it, but the result was the same. Any ideas?

Hi,

First, you haven't specified what version of MEP you're using. Did you see the prominent post at the top of this page?

PLEASE DO THE FOLLOWING BEFORE POSTING YOUR QUESTION

How exactly did you 'save it as a Windows video'? Do you mean you used File > Export movie? If so, what type of file did you choose and with what settings?

Having said that, if the preview was OK it sounds very odd that the exported MPG, MP4, WMV or whatever should not be. A screenshot of your Export settings might help.

Sorry, it is MEP 2013. I'm not sure if there is a specific ID for the version I have other than that. I just downloaded it in March so it is probably the most (or close to it) up to date version.  I'm not sure exactly what settings you would need to see but here are a couple screen shots of the settings and the project I am trying to work on...

I'm not sure if those are big enough for you to see. In the second image you can see one of the greenscreens that is not working. In the image it is, but in the finished video it is not. The red X is on a green background.

I hope this helps, I would really like to figure out what I am doing wrong.

Unfortunately those aren't very helpful because we can't see what's in the all important track 1. Show all tracks. As for the poor detail viewig, that's because despite many requests Magix still use a miserably poor resolution for images. If there's a need for detail text to be seen (as in this case) I upload my images and use the Link tool instead. Do you have a site (e.g. Dropbox, ImageShack, etc) where you can do the same?

You still haven't told us exactly how you exported it. I assume you used File > Export movie > Window media.., but what settings did you use? Show us a single screenshot of your tracks and export settings like this example of mine:

https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/4019461/MEP2013-ExportSettings-Example.jpg

You can see that I've appled Chroma Key = Green to the object in track 2, with the expected result in track 1.

Thanks Terry. I actually just clicked the "export" button in the top right corner. Maybe that was my problem?! Here is a screen shot of all the tracks and the export settings from file>export movie>MPEG4.

Track 1 is just an audio track that ends before this section of video. I hope this helps.

No, that's just another (less flexible) route to the same objective.

OK, that's useful.

My best guess is  that you're comparing apples and pears. Your preview section using Chroma starts at around  4 mins 20 secs and only appears to last for a few seconds, but your export is obviously much longer. Are you 100% sure you don't get the expected result for that short section of your video?

BTW, why have you mixed music (MP3) and video (MTS) on the same track? More generally, your tracks are rather poorly organised IMO. Best to place your video on track 1, its audio (if any, and if separated) in track 2, and captions/titles in track 3.

If the above doesn't isolate the problem then work up a small project that demonstrates it (i.e. by deleting all the irrelevant parts), and then use File > Backup copy > Copy project and media into folder, zip that up and upload it so that we can try to reproduce it.

Hi

just to add to terrys comment

It is not a good idea to mix audio and video on the same track as you have done - it causes complications for you when you are trying to do what looks like a simple [X] overlay on a section of a longer clip which you have cut out and moved up a 4 tracks and inserted a mp3 file in the gap..

If this is what you are trying to do then you have over complicated the problem.

1.  You do not need to use a green screen effect for the [X] . A red cross [X} on a transparent background and saved as a png file is all you need.

2.  You can overlay as shown in the image below - the green circle is a png file with a transparent background and no chroma effects applied to it

3.  The audio is on a lower track as shown in the image

As you can see it is much clearer to see what is happening on the timeline.

HTH

John

Thanks John and Terry. It was my first effort and a complete mess I know. I ended up just created transparent backgrounds and it works now. Thank you and I am going to be better next time!
