Nothing I try works. all the suggestions I received in this forum... DOESN'T work can someone help me, please? Thank you. How do I get my money back?

I want to thank all forum members for your suggestions. Since the green screen did not work at all I did get a refund (not easy to do)

Hi,

Without knowing anything more, I suggest that you use the mode Color and not Green, then drag over the greenish colour.

Hi

In addition to @browj2 comment, I would also suggest you see this comment regarding the green colours that work and also this comment re the Antispill feature.

@KennBurrow-1357 @johnebaker @browj2 I have used Magix for approximately eight years and the chroma key/green screen in the 2016/2017 versions (I forgot exactly what year) worked fine but the 2020/2021/2023 versions are all terrible. Here is a screenshot of exported videos using the exact same hardware/software/lighting etc. This is the core function I need for my videos and I don't know why Magix never fixes this. I bought the 2023 version a few days ago thinking that by now it would be fixed but I guess not. You can see clearly that earlier versions had clean/crisp edges while newer versions do not.

Hi

IIRC the green colour range, that the Green screen effect works with, was tightened up when the Anti Spill feature was added.

This may be the cause of the fringing you are seeing and would also suggest a significant amount of background over spill into the black clothing and the left side of the head .

Can you post an original still image or a short clip of green screen footage with an object in front of the screen that behaves as shown above, to some where like Google Drive, Microsoft One or use a file transferring site such as WeTransfer for us to test.

Other options to test:

Do you get a better green removal if you use the Color option, dragging a marquee in the green screen area?

If the green screen is artificially lit try reducing the lighting level to reduce the overspill onto clothing etc.

@johnebaker I removed Movie Studio 2023 from my computer and replaced it with MEP Version 17.0.1.128 and the chroma key works great for the exact same file that had problems in MS 2023. I am adding a link here for Microsoft One Drive to see/download an eight second clip of the subject in front of the green screen. No audio, just video. I hope I understand your request, it was recorded in MOV and uploaded as MP4. By "original" did you mean MOV? Thank you for your help.

@friendflyer

But there is also an even greater shadow cast.

Maybe something needs to be illuminated.

Edit :

Other video software handles this material better.

Even free software.

Magix has probably not tested enough again, or they don't care.

@Marc-Goder Yes I know about the shadow and I will probably try better lighting but previous versions of MEP are fine. If I take the exact same clip and use chroma key in Version 17.0.1.128 it's fine as you can see here:

johnebaker wrote on 1/9/2023, 1:17 PM

@friendflyer,

Hi

. . . . but previous versions of MEP are fine . . . .

As I said above the newer version has a more restricted RGB range for Chromakey green effect to work effectively.

In the video clip, I am measuring a green screen RGB colour range (averaged) from 6-115-70 to 23-161-102, the standard industry green screen colour RGB equivalent is approx 0-177-64.

The unwanted red colour and excess blue is putting the green screen out of the range of the newer Chromakey green effect, the Color effect gives a better resolution however not entirely acceptable.

As @Marc-Goder has commented the lighting is casting shadows onto the green screen.

What are the lighting sources eg photo/video lights, household lights, and are they LED or Fluorescent lamps.

Is the space for recording limited to achieve greater separation between the green screen, subject and lighting?

Improvements to the lighting and to control over-spill could include:-

  • use more diffuse lighting

  • adding a supplementary diffused light source, designed for photo/video use, to illuminate the green screen more evenly and adjusting its intensity and colour balance if possible to improve the recorded colour.

  • increase the distance between the screen and subject, ideally a minimum separation of 1.5m, preferably more - this should reduce the green screen spill into the clothing and hair.

Thanks @johnebaker for the response and suggestions. I will order more lighting and try again and will come back here later with an update. Thanks again. 🙂👍
