@Brian-Koncher

Hi

Are you using the Magix/Xara Online hosting for your site? Is what is the FTP host address - it should be something like this - ftp.hostname.com

Try downloading FileZilla and using the same connection settings as in Web Designer to see if you can connect to the host server.

If FileZilla does connect check your AntiVirus/Firewall is not blocking Web Designer from accessing the Internet.

I keep on getting this....

Response:    421 Maximum login limit has been reached.
Error:    Could not connect to server

I would like to clean up my website because I must have duplicated files which has triple my web space...

This when I am using FileZilla ..

@Brian-Koncher

Hi

This would suggest you are locked out of the site.

Is your hosting with Magix/Xara and if so, are you up to date with the annual hosting fee?

Can you login to your Control panel for your website?

. . . . This when I am using FileZilla .. . . . .

Is there something missing after the above partial sentence?

Hi

I assume you tried with FileZilla and it too failed to connect, in which case I would suggest you contact Xara Online Support - see item 4 here.

John, I tried to use fileZilla and still it errors out with max 421 login's .... I have used Xara for over 3 years now and never had any problems. I think its because I have over 11000 small files in one directory ... . eg .JPG .PNG Is there an email to contact direct.....

@Brian-Koncher

Hi

. . . . I have over 11000 small files in one directory . . . .

What is the total size on disk of the folder containing these files ?

. . . . I tried to use fileZilla and still it errors out with max 421 login's . . . .

Assuming the actual error message is:

421 too many connections (x) from ..... where x is a number

Then this is an HTTP response status code from the server - when quoting error messages please quote the full message or include a screenshot of the message.

In this case it would appear that you have exceeded the number of FTP connections due to previous connections have not been closed correctly.

You can check this by:.

  1. Logging in to the the Control Panel on your website hosting then (assuming it is cPanel):
  2. Open Files, FTP Connections.
  3. If you do not see any FTP connections in the Current Connections section, press the Reload button.
  4. Under the Actions column, select a connection and click Disconnect twice to drop the FTP connection.
  5. Repeat step 4 disconnecting all connections listed.
  6. Log out of the control panel

You should then be able to connect again.

Hi John,

The size of the disk is around 550 MB's which are in index_htm_files.... The root directory is about 12 MB's which has around 200 HTM's files ...... My website is my ancestry tree which is made up of 200 familes ...

I have just used FileZilla and uploaded with success all the files contained in index_htm_files directory.... I'm not sure if the number of files inside the website is causing the problem.....

Not sure what you mean in Logging into the Control Panel.... but the website seems to be working now with updated info.... Take a look if you like..

www.koncherclan.co.uk

Anyway thank you for your help..

johnebaker wrote on 1/9/2021, 10:53 AM

@Brian-Koncher

Hi Brian

At 550 MB you are not exceeding the size limitation for your website which is 2000 MB unless there is a lot of duplication.

. . . . I'm not sure if the number of files inside the website is causing the problem . . . .

AFAIK there is no actual limitation on the number of files.

. . . . Not sure what you mean in Logging into the Control Panel . . . .

The control panel - cPanel - may not be available to you, if it is, access details may be mentioned in your purchase confirmation emails.

. . . . . Take a look if you like. . . .

The site is an impressive amount of work - you must have been working on this for years!.
