FTP Remote file not found?

Dillan-Porter wrote on 3/31/2020, 10:48 AM

Hi, I am trying to publish a website I built in XARA (desktop version) to a godaddy hosted domain. Here is how I get my problem.

I click "Share"

Then "Sign into other webhosting service"

Option 3 "Other Web Host (via FTP)"

Open settings. Select SFTP

I then fill out the appropriate information given to me by GoDaddy.

If i set it to Fast Publish (only new pages/ information) I get the following message (after it attempts to upload)

FTP Error: Timeout was reached.

Background information. The website I am trying to upload is to an existing domain where the website was built via wordpress. Yesterday I deleted the website from within the Wordpress account. It is still up, but that is what godaddy's help chat told me to do. I have tried various methods and changes to the above actions and have gotten several different FTP error messages.

"Remote file not found"

"invalid subfolder (i never put one in?)

Any help would be fantastic as go daddy and Magix customer service has been entirely unhelpful.

Thank you.

Hi

Assuming this is a total replacement of the website no longer using WordPress, then WordPress itself must be removed form your domain space.

Depending on how WordPress was installed ie

  1. by the hosting company they may need to deactivate/remove it.

  2. by whoever setup the hosting and old site and they manually installed WordPress then you need an FTP program eg FileZilla, to FTP into the host site and remove everything that is there.

before you can upload the new site.

So i have logged into filezilla, then I remove all files? After that I just attempt the upload via SFTP?

@Dillan-Porter

I'm pretty certain that's what John was suggesting. But, have you also followed his advice about removing Wordpress itself? If WP was installed by the hosting company - you may need to ask goDaddy if they did so - then as John says, they need to uninstall/remove it before you attempt to upload the new site.

Okay i will try to talk to them again. I did delete the wordpress site and word press account, but its not down yet. So i am confused.

@Dillan-Porter

What do you mean by it's not down yet? If you mean the "old" site itself, it can take up to 48 hours or more for changes on the hosting server to propagate across the whole Internet since some ISPs will be holding cached copies of the original site.

If you are checking this via your own web browser try clearing the cache on your computer, using f5 or Ctrl+f5.

Wordpress emailed and said that they will leave the old site up for 30 days. How do i get it removed sooner? The website i built is for a client, and they would like to have the site up and running in a week or so.

Hi

. . . . . Wordpress emailed and said that they will leave the old site up for 30 days. How do i get it removed sooner? . . . .

You have to take that up with WordPress.
