I know this is something simples, because I did it unintentionally, but when in the timeline view, everything has been squished together and I can not get the clips bigger again. Can someone please tell me how to fix this and why it's so freaking hard???

I wonder if you have accidentality clicked on the wrong icon for the timeline view?
Don't take any notice of the differences between your program and the one I'm currently exporting from. The views are roughly the same and you would have the same icons in the same place.
That's the icon for the timeline view. Just click on the image to enlarge it and click to one side of the image to get back to this page.

You're right, of course. I should have been in bed 22 minutes earlier.
What does one call a menu that is supposed to dropdown (arrow pointing downwards as in this case) but pops up because there is no room to go down, then rolls down from the popup? A "popdown?"
The lower part of the image shows various shortcuts. I just use the mouse - Ctrl+mousewheel up/down to change the zoom on the timeline.
As a bonus for my popdown, buttons with 3 dots in the lower right corner have a menu opened with right-click on the mouse.

For the items in your images above, I would stick to 'popup menu' in the context of 'pops up out of nowhere', rather than flies in from top/bottom/left/right.on top or anything other direction or mechanism.
