Frame Rate differences btn. movie and export

Kami_1 wrote on 8/1/2016, 10:20 PM

Hi,

I just began editing HD movies, AVCHD format, Progressive, 28 Mbps.  I'm using a still camera which does HD movies at 16x9, 50 frame rate, 1920x1080 pixels, 50P.  I export to mpg.

I did one which exported okay to mpg.  Then I tried a 4 second clip, same settings as the previous movie.  Each time I tried to export, Igot the attached pop-up about different export settings.  I tried each of the 3 options.  With Continue and Customize movie, I got mostly black clips.  I couldn't Adjust the export in mpg because the highest value is 30.

I finally exported to mxv format which worked, came out great.  Of course, I can't view it outside of MEP.

Then I imported the mxv into MEP, and exported that to mpg.  I tried it twice, and got the clip, but it wasn't nearly as good as the mxv.   It looked like SD rather than HD.

I'm open to suggestions, thanks.

Hi Kami

. . . . I tried each of the 3 options.  With Continue and Customize movie, I got mostly black clips.  I couldn't Adjust the export in mpg because the highest value is 30 . . . .

Exporting to MPG using Hardware Acceleration and the Intel integrated graphics card does have an issue in producing black clips or a 0 byte file.

After experimenting with AVCHD file, MPG does not appear to support HD video above 30 fps - the framerate can be set to 50 fps however no file is exported.

If you require a MPG file then turn off Hardware acceleration in MEP's settings and use the HD Archive 1920*1080i NTSC preset - and change the setting shown below to progressive

You can save the preset as a custom one for future use by clicking the disc icon to the right of the presets dropdown and save as an Export preset - giving it a meaningful name.

If you want 50 fps export then try exporting as MPEG 4 using the options shown below

Note: I am assuming you are using the Intel integrated graphics chipset, if you are using a different graphics card or the MainConcept codec then the names of the export presets will be slightly different.

Hi John,  Thanks!

I printed your reply to a pdf so I can remember the details.

Hardware Acceleration is checked.  My graphics card is a Nvidia GeForce GTX 260.   In the export window, I have calculate video effects on GPU selected.  Preferred codec for mpg2 is "Default."

I'll try the suggested settings next time I have an HD video to edit.

Hi Kami

That setting is not necessary when you have Hardware Acceleration turned on, and it can cause issues with both on.

Thanks for that information.  I selected that setting when I noticed that the export is slightly faster with it checked.  I'll see what happens when I uncheck it.
