Flickering playback and rendering

Raymond-Borbon wrote on 4/18/2023, 8:05 PM

Hi,

I am trying to make a movie with clips done on different cameras and am getting a flickering effect on some clips during playback and rendering.

The problematic files are AVI 3840x2160, 16:9 and 60 fps.

Other files in the movie project playback and render fine.

Is there a setting which I can use to resolve this? I have retried placing my Magix Movie Studio 2023 settings to factory defaults.

My system

  • Windows 11 Pro
  • Intel Core i7-7700k CPU @ 4.20GHz , 4 Cores 8 Logical processors
  • NVIDEA GeForce GTX 1080

Thank you

Ok, I did an experiment.

I converted all the AVI files in the subdirectories where my work was located into MP4 and no flickering.

This powershell helped me batch the work up. So mitigated the issue for now. I no longer have the camera that produces the AVI files, therefore the conversion is a one time operation for me. If you need a script to do something similar you may try something like this

Write-Host "Starting..."
Set-Location F:\vidclips
$files = Get-ChildItem -Include *.avi -Recurse
$ffmpeg = "C:\Users\sasqu\Downloads\ffmpeg-master-latest-win64-gpl\ffmpeg-master-latest-win64-gpl\bin\ffmpeg.exe"
foreach ($fn in $files)
{
  $dest = $fn -replace ".avi", ".mp4"
  if (-not (Test-Path $dest))
  {
      Write-Host "$ffmpeg -i $fn $dest"
      & $ffmpeg @('-i', $fn, $dest)
  }
}

Hi

What is the full name and version number, as found under Help, About, of the video editor you are using?

Are the drivers for the Intel HD 630 iGPU and the GTX 1080 up to date? The latest versions are Intel - 31.0.101.2115, GTX 1080 - 531.68 (31.0.15.3168)

Which GPU is selected in the Program settings, Device or Display options tab?

The cause of the AVI video flickering may be due to:

  • Panning - are the affected clips pan shots?

  • The internal video encoding format -

    Download and install MediaInfo and analyse one of the AVI clips that flickers, and post the results, see this tutorial on how to setup MediaInfo and analyse a video clip for all the data required.

  • An all in one codec pack, eg K-Lite is installed, these are not necesary and are known to cause issues.

Hi.

We have seen this problem from DJI drone footage in the past recorded at 30fps. Not so much flickering as juddering. The solution was to force the project to use 30 fps and export at 30 fps rather than let the program use the 29.97fps the files recoded at. So I would assume the project on loading the first file, set the project to 59.94 fps and that needs changing the project to, and exporting / rendering to 60fps to prevent this. Then no file conversion should be necessary.

For some reason I cannot reproduce the issue, today. I will update here if it happens again
