Fixing MEP layout on opening

terrypin wrote on 11/25/2011, 10:33 AM

It's probably not something that concerns most MEP users, but I'm having trouble getting MEP17 to open up with a consistent layout, size and position. This is how I lke it, with MEP on the left, filling about 2/3 of my screen.

But when I restart, I get a maximised window with wasted space, like this:

If I use F9, the wasted space disappears but the window is still maximised. If i then use the top right standard Restore icon, it changes to a smaller size than I had, and it's centrally positioned, not on the left.

These issues are important to me because I use a lot of macros dependent on positioning being precise - to a single pixel in some cases.

Anyone have any ideas on how I might get what I'm after please?

Both my MEP 17+ and MEP MX+ seem to stay position as I set them (I use about 3/4s of the screen for mine).  Now when I did it originally, I opened it up fresh; I adjusted the window sizes; then closed it again before doing any work.  Next time I opened it, it has been fine since then.  I'm under Win XP Pro, logged in with admin permissions, if that has any effect.

Thanks, appreciate the feedback. That's puzzling. I wonder why mine opens as I described, not as it was when last closed. I do have the shortcut set to 'Normal', not 'Maximised'.

Do you ever change the size of the Preview Monitor? Or any other 'sub-window'?

If so, and you use F9 to restore 'default layoout', does that affect the size of a new session later?

My shortcut is set to Normal WIndow too.  I've manually changed the preview window size, yes, and even "maximized" it so it kind of pops out over the main window to fill most of the screen.  But I've not used F9.  I usually either just manually resize it back, or right click and choose an option to size it.

Can you adjust the window size, close MEP, then reopen it?  Does it still maximize it?  Is it a shortcut directly to the program (not a shortcut to another shortcut, that might be set maximized)?

My Program Settings -> Display templates is set to "used-defined setting" if that helps.

Thanks for the follow-up.

If I start afresh and then manually build the layout, then yes I can close and re-open and it stays OK. I think it's the use of F9 that muddies the water.

Sometimes, as mentioned, I need to restore exactly the same size and positions of all the sub-windows and main window, so that my macros will work reliably. That becomes necessary if for example I accidentally drag the preview monitor edge, instead of the handles around an object being sized. And after doing that, which I do with a macro, if I then close and re-open, I get the behaviour I described.

The macro peforms 4 steps:
1. F9
2. Resizes main window to 1432 x 1172
3. Repositions it at 0,0
4. Sets Preview Monitor to 512 x 288

It's no big deal. One of the penalties I incur for using macros.

Thanks again for your help.

Yeah that sounds like the difference.  I haven't played with the macros yet.  Glad to do what I could. :-)
