File types and import

ASm wrote on 3/11/2021, 10:54 AM

Hello, I would like to know what file types (extensions) can be used or imported into MM such as instruments, loops etc. Is there a standard file type or types than can be used other than those from the MM store. So, if I wanted to purchase loops, effects and instruments from other providers, which extension would it/they need to be? Also which folder/s they would go into to be recognized in MM when it loads. Thanks in advance for any help...

@ASm The manual mentions Wave (.wav), OGG Vorbis (.ogg), Windows Media Audio (.wma), MP3 (.mp3), AIFF (.aif), FLAC (.flac) CDA (Audio-CD-Tracks), VST Instruments, MIDI (.mid)

Hi

. . . . . purchase loops, effects and instruments from other providers, which extension would it/they need to be? Also which folder/s they would go into to be recognized in MM when it loads.  . . . .

Magix soundpool loops are available in OGG and WAV format - I would stick to the same formats - WAV being the better quality.

The main issue with third party loop collections is they will not show up as Soundpools if they are not designed specifically for Music Maker - they may not have the supporting files necessary.

However you can place the 3rd party sound loops in a folder or folders in your Documents folder and use either the built in File Manager tab of Music Maker or Windows File Explorer to drag the loops to the timeline.

Hello, thanks for the replies. I have download some loops and instruments and placed them in a folder then used MM to point to them. Some are AST files and others are just DLL's. Just need to have MM scan your paths each time you import one. See attached Image and then using Sonatina Orchestra as an example.

@ASm

Looking at your screenshot, it seems you have only the (?) Free version of MM. Is that correct? If so, are you aware that it is limited to a maximum of 8 tracks unless you specifically purchase the add-on for additional tracks?

If it is not correct and you do have either the Plus or Premium variant I suspect you have not downloaded and installed all the additional content that comes with those purchased versions. Certainly, your instruments tab seems to have very few instruments listed.

To "automatically" have a lot more instruments available, as well as removing the 8 tracks limit, consider upgrading to the Premium variant; I suspect it will actually save you quite a lot of money on the long term since you will not need to separately purchase such a large number of instruments, soundpools effects etc!

Hmmm thanks, I have the Premium version! I'll have to take a look :-) thanks for noticing.

I have the premium version so wondering why I don't seem to see the amount of instruments you speak of? Could you tell me which instruments I should also have please?

@ASm

I think it would be rather easier if you were to post a screenshot of the "MAGIX Account" tab from the opening splashscreen. This is what it looks like on my computer in MM 2021 Premium version. I have obscured my email address, for obvious reasons, I hope!

Notice it clearly says "Premium" at the top.

@ASm

Hi,

Click on the Downloads button/Tab at the upper right of the screen which is cut off in your screen shot. What do you see? Anything to download and install?

Go to the Project Settings (shortcut A) and change the number of tracks to 16. Are you able to do this?

@emmrecs

Hi Jeff,

If @ASm just had the free version, the button for scanning for VST Plugins would not show up.

I have attached a screenshot showing the Premium Version. The only things I have in my downloads tab are CD/DVD Burning and Soundforge Audio Studio 12 (but I already own ver 13). Should I contact tech support do you think? Any idea what instruments I am missing please? The image shows which ones I have but at least 7 of those are free VST's etc that I have included myself. Are the instruments included in the loops perhaps?

emmrecs wrote on 3/12/2021, 10:58 AM

@ASm

Hi again.

Now I'm beginning to doubt myself!

If you click on the blue "Additional Instruments" box, what do you see? Are all those listed shown as needing to be purchased?

I've had various versions of MM over several years so can only conclude that what I see on my list of Instruments is the culmination of several versions, plus one or two I have bought, plus some non-Magix VSTis that I also own.

I was hoping this comparison of variants page would offer more guidance, but no.

Sorry if I've misled you!

@emmrecs you are correct. When you click on the "additional Instruments" it takes you to the store for paid instruments. However, there are lots of free ones (vst, dll and such) on the net which can be added in the way I showed in my earlier post :-)

What do you see under Downloads?

Under Help, Music Maker Store, Activated Content, do you see Music Maker Plus 2021 and Premium 2021?

And under Help....Activated Content?

I presume, then, that you already downloaded and installed everything else that was under Downloads. Correct?
