Just installed, and want to go back to prevous version. I was annoyed when they rearranged the Video Effects selection buttons, now have to relearn where the ones I use most are.

But more important, as far as I can see, they removed the Magix Image Stabilizer, which has worked very good for my videos. I tried the Vegas Stabilizer.... it does NOTHING. No controls, just "Analyze Motion Data." No difference at all.

I'm also finding that the Sharpness command has little or no effect.

Is the previous version's installer file in your documents/Magix downloads folder by any chance. That's where mine resides?

The only file in the MEP 2019 folder is "Videodeluxe_en.chw. It's dated Feb. 16, 2019, and is 94 KB. Is this what you mean? I don't seem to have any MEP (Videodeluxe) install files since 2017.

It's the Magix image stabilizer that's gone. For me, it works much better than Prodad. Without that tool, I can't work on my numerous videos.

You are right though. I've read somewhere on the Magix Info pages somewhere in the past that certain effects supplied within Magix only have limited lifespans across versions of MEP. I have no idea whether this is the reason behind your effect being missing or not.

I think the Magix stabilizer has been part of MEP since the beginning or soon after. It was an integral part of the software when I first used MEP maybe 20 years ago. It wasn't an add-on.

I got an email today offering a deal on MEP Plus 2020. I used to use MEP until I bought a competing editor that always wins the speed awards, and which uses my nVidia GTX-960 for encoding, But I still think that MEP's timeline edit tools are the best.(Ahough a certain high end free editor is catching up fast.) With the promise of a faster engine, I tried the trial version of MEP 2020.

First problem: The installer did not let me chose where to install MEP. So it cluttered up my OS partition. Second, it still does not use my GPU for encoding. (AMD CPU.) Third, and adding insult to injury, it does not max out my CPU while encoding. I just upgraded to an 8-core AMD. While MEP uses all 8 cores, they run at only 50%. Whereas the free high end editor maxes out all my 8 cores for the same MP4 encode. (And so is cutrently twice as fast as MEP.) If I buy their Studio version, it promises to use my nVidia GPU for encoding and will be faster.

So I guess I'm resolved to eventually buy the competition's high end editor.

I tried to install the update, after deleting the program it started the re-installation, got to a point where it could not find some temp folders then crashed, now I don't even have Magix Movie Edit Pro installed anymore

Now have major issues, the uninstall was incomplete, cannot now uninstall the complete program, too many folders missing, do Magix have a Movie studio Pro cleanup tool that can be used to remove all remaining items

Tried a system restore, however some files have been damaged, so program still not loading

Now trying a system backup made 2 days ago, that will take about 5 hours to complete

I should mention that I'm a newcomer to MEP, so my current expectations and demands of the program are pretty low - and I don't usually install updates of programs that already work without issues, as was the case with my original version.  So, assuming that I could choose whether or not to actually install the update, I downloaded it and was not exactly delighted to discover that the only choice I had from that point was to install it now, or when MEP was closed: it didn't appear in my download folder.  One reason I was hesitant to download in the first place is Magix's strange policy of forcing a revert to the originally purchased version in the event of, say, migration to a different computer. Presumably the main reason for this policy is to force users to eventually purchase the update (at what is effectively full program cost) once they're accustomed to it and when they crash a drive or buy a new PC...   Anyway, installation was thankfully without issues on my Windows 7 SP1 machine. 

I do like the new Vegas stability plugin. For a beginner like myself the fewer adjustments there are the better I like it, and this plugin has none - but it still appears to perform well. Otherwise, given my limited requirements, I don't see a great deal of useful additions or changes.  When I do upgrade my PC to W10 in the next few months I won't be too devastated to find my old version back on the screen...

Well, so far, the playback is smoother on my machine which is pretty old but meets the minimum requirements and exceeds them in most respects bar a couple that are, I don't have Intel Graphics HD 520 on my machine as it is using an Ivy Bridge i5 processor, so exporting video times have actually lengthened when exporting MP4, as previously it took just over two hours and now takes just over three hours . Using the HEVC codec, a project that took sixteen hours now takes 22 hours. (That was estimated but looked on track for the 22 hours. I stopped the export a third of the way through as there were no effects in use and only crossfade edits). I did the test using two projects I'd already rendered and taken a record of how long they took to export originally. Weirdly MEP is using less CPU processing during export.

The rest I haven't tried as yet. I know I really need a Sandy Bridge processor to get better performance, preferably an i7, but I was slightly disappointed at the longer export times incurred. I am on Windows 7 and had no install problems.

There was an initial niggle with the extra content installers hanging halfway through the installs. However, this was solved by deleting the previous version's content folder form the templates directory.

I am overall happy with this version so far.

The editing and preview is a lot smoother. Mind you I was hoping the MP4 H.264 export would support CUDA on my GTX960

The Hitfilm (Now FXHome) and Newblue effect plugins now properly support the colour picker and graphic colour selection tool. Previously, to set a colour, all you could do is enter the red, blue and green components. This colour picker and graphic colour selection tool present in MEP2020 is a vast improvement.

Note: These plugins rely on your computer ID. Therefore, Windows 10 users who install any Milestone update, you will have to deactivate and reactivate these plugins. If you don't, you'll end up with a logo overplayed on any element using these effects. Took me a while to work out what was going on here.

I had a few intermittent occasions when MEP2020 would not close and exit when you attempt to do so (I'm wondering if anyone else is getting this). I remember this happened on a previous version or MEP, however Magix solved this with a patch.

As mentioned, I am fairly happy with this version so far.

The irritating problems (for me anyway) that were introduced in MEP2019 have been carried over to MEP 2020. These were documented here https://www.magix.info/uk/forum/new-version-18-0-2-261--1225258/

My specific irritations are:

1. Cropping/zooming when  the image or video is under rotation - rotate an image 15 degrees and then try to crop it with "camera/zoom shot", the image returns to 0 degrees for the action.
2. The effects icons still do not stay where I put them - eg. crop an image, apply magnifying glass and the icons return to cropping/ zooming which is tiresome if I want to adjust the magnification.

Ivy and Sandy Bridge don't have GPU Encoding for HEVC. You'll need a supported Nvidia dGPU to get that.

Also, as software is updated to take advantage of newer technologies, it is actually quite common for hardware that old to decrease in performance.

It's using less CPU power because the CPU is waiting on the GPU. Your machine is bottlenecked.

Put a better GPU in the machine...

Also, Windows 10 runs a bit more efficiently than Windows 7... so you aren't helping yourself by staying on that ancient OS. While you may not think it is that huge of a difference, having a machine that old exacerbates the disparity.

When exporting a video and selecting "Don't play out" in the Export window, the exported video plays when completed.

This did not happen in MEP 2019.

It did for me and all versions of MEP going back to MEP 2017.

Welcome to the Magix forums.

If your Update Service is still current all you need to do is to go to Help>Update online and allow the process to run. There is no need to uninstall 2019 version first since the new version installer migrates some settings from it to the new install (apparently) and then uninstalls the old version before installing the new.

Normally the program will tell you the update is available, however you must have a current Update Service subscription in order to update.

You can also check through Help, Update Online.

MEP 2020 will replace MEP 2019 - there are some changes to file locations that the upgrade takes care of for you.

Thank both of you for the quick response!

I have 2019 installed and running. Two weeks ago update service expired. Just to support the Magix guys buying their second Ferrraris I decided to renew the update service some hours ago. I received order confirmation and the summary in my account lists my update service to be valid until August 2020. Yet no update offered through help/online update. It just opens up a pop up offering me to renew just like before my sending funds. Any idea why 2019 still thinks no update?

Michael, I went back to 2019, and I started getting desktop popups asking me to upgrade -- for the cost, even though I already paid. I removed the Magic Cloud item thru Programs. Won't know till tomorrow if that stops the popups, which I've been getting every day.
