Dear Community,

Thank you again for the last feedback round. We gained a lot of insight.

That's why I decided to continue creating feedback threads for each new version. This time, we released version 16.0.1.255

So, like the last time, please tell us what you are struggling with and what you love about the new version.

We are eager to hear your feedback! 👐

Thanks for the news.

The release notes don’t cover problems I have been having but I will try it out.

As mentioned, I feel some of the issues are related to windows 10 update. I’ll let you know how I go.

@MAGIX_Redaktion

Hi Mathias,

The nested sequences was resolved, and I haven't had a crash all day. It's looking a lot better. We'll have to see if Doug's problems have been resolved.

Below is my updated list, including some new bugs (and old bugs). I would appreciate comments from Magix where noted, especially on the new chromakey effect that I can't find.

16.0.1.255

  1. Resolved: Link to the Movie Templates moved to the Templates tab as "Editing Templates Basic" and "Film Templates Basic"
  2. Import tab: Link to the folder under MAGIX Tools for XAR is missing.
  3. Import tab: Cloud Import opens a German interface for me.
  4. Templates tab: Image Objects - ColorFields and Pictures - the preview icons do not show, only a default icon for all choices. They are in the folder under Program Data, but they do not show up on the screen.
  5. Abandoned: Templates tab: Transitions: Missing Movie transitions - see workaround that I mentioned in the other thread
  6. Templates tab: The vertical scroll bar cannot be dragged up and down, only sideways to expand/contract the listing window. The mouse indicator changes to a left/right arrow. This is a problem on my hi-resolution Surface Pro 4 but not on my desktop.
  7. No Reply - change assumed to be intentional: J/L-cut command: Hold down Alt and drag the end of a     trimmed clip, either the video part or the audio part to do this. However, holding down Alt and dragging on the audio or video part away from the end moves it independently, thus getting audio and video out of sync. Was this intentional to be used in cases where the A/V is slightly out of sync and one wants to slightly move the audio?
  8. Obsolete: There should be a warning somehow that users should not install the new content and try to update from 236 to 242 at the same time. One user had a fatal crash, requiring uninstall, reinstall.
  9. On-going problem: Right-click on the audio part of a video track, no command for "Edit in external editor." This has been an intermittent problem, sometimes it's there, sometimes not. This gets linked to the next problem if one wants to export to Samplitude (to EDL) and include all objects. Each audio part of a video clip has to be mixed down, but the right-click Edit in external editor is not always there.
  10. On-going problem: Exporting from Samplitude Pro X3 to Video Pro X (see under the export options in  Samplitude), mixes down the audio, saves the file, opens Video Pro X but the audio file does not show up in VPX. If VPX is open before exporting, Samplitude tries to open a second instance; it should not. Going from MusicMaker to MEP (both ways) is simple and effective. Going from Samplitude to VPX (both ways) is almost impossible.
  11. Missing feature: There should be a Share menu in VPX (like in MEP) and it should be possible to go back and forth to MusicMaker and Samplitude as can be done with Movie Edit Pro.
  12. Major annoyance: page 19 of the VPX10 manual states: "The Media Pool has been completely redesigned. It now features direct access to the MAGIX Store, where you can buy additional content and functions for direct use. If you have already purchased content with other MAGIX programs, this can also be used in MAGIX Video Pro X." This is not true as anything purchased through the in-app Store of MusicMaker cannot be used in VPX or MEP, and vice versa. Can we please have some feedback from Magix on this?
  13. Resolved: Nested sequences no longer work. Thank you!
  14. New bug: the start screen menu does not put the last opened project in the box as the default. Sometimes the pop-down has recent files, sometimes not. From a new install, watch what happens when the bottom part fills up. Sometimes a new project, saved, then program exit, does not show up on the list when VPX is restarted. The startup screen requires close review for what happens with new and recently opened files.
  15. Old bug: Object and Edit Trimmers: The right arrow button for Object content only moves 1 frame when pressed repeatedly, as does the bottom right arrow to change position of start in point in target movie. Using Ctrl+Alt+left click moves it 5 frames, so it is not because there is no room. There are workarounds. For the Edit trimmer only: pressing on the top right arrows (move transition) seem to unlock the single frame arrows for the two other arrows. In the attached video, for the Edit trimmer, it may be that the Object Content is supposed to always be at 0, even if the clip has been trimmed. I would like to know if it is supposed to be 0 or supposed to be the number of frames available at the left end of the clip. Magix please comment.

Bug 3 - Cloud import in German

Bug 6 Templates tab scroll bar problem - Video

Bug 15 Trimmers problem - button stuck - Video

Still missing in action is the new feature:

Object extraction: Exactly like you'd imagine.
Video Pro X's new object extraction algorithm makes it possible to recognize
and extract objects from videos. Magix, where is this?

WOW I’m a happy camper so far.

No crashing at all on a 10 camera edit. None of the points John CB mentioned affect me so I can’t comment on those.

A couple of things since 236,242 and current.

1. Undo doesn’t stay where the cursor is. It jumps to the bottom object.

2. when using the effects, if I apply an effect and want to keep using that effect like neat video, it keeps defaulting back to the main video effects so I need to keep scrolling back down to the effect I am using which is a pain.

3. I have found the only way to get a smooth end drag of an object is to have the timeline playing otherwise it is very slow to drag.

I would love to see a shortcut for “remove audio object” instead of right click, audio functions and remove audio object . Even if we can change an existing unused shortcut.

So far i’m happy with the patch. Just don’t bugger things with the next one.

Interestingly, I just went back to the saved project sitting on the computer after writing this post and the program had shut down and re opened a blank project. I will have to keep an eye on that and report back.

Doug.

As usual a bit premature.

Had another freeze and had to force close. Just need to change my ways a bit and save more often.

I am using a different slide show program and it shut down without warning as well so I still think it’s a windows issue.

Trying to find out how to roll back to 17 build.

There is another possibility - the Pavilion is overheating, possibly the RAM, which would cause crashes. It may be worth checking using a motherboard monitoring program.

Yes I’ve had a lot more issues with the HP than I ever did with the Lenovo however I have VPX installed on the Lenovo as well and it has the same freezing issues. That’s why I’m leaning towards windows.

With the latest build I installed tonight, I seem to have lost the "Play" button. I can still start/stop using space, but I miss the play button. Also when I go to full screen mode, I can't see any transport controls (even when I select "show transport controls".

Also, the clock in the top-right of the program window is only partially showing now. It used to show the total length of the movie but it doesn't anymore.

In the old "version 9" I used to be able to drag objects from the movie timeline and store them in the movie folder (they take on a TK2 file extension). I could then reuse these objects in new movies by importing them by dragging them onto the timeline of the new movie. Unfortunately this feature crashes Magix every time.

I found a cumbersome workaround which is to open a second movie (simply drag a second movie onto the timeline) which includes the sections to be edited. Then tab to the second movie and drag the objects you want to use into the working files. Then close the second movie and drag the objects to the timeline in the new movie.

I would really like to be able to reuse objects from one movie in a new movie (part completed titles are the most valuable use of this for me.

It's interesting that there are different issues in different parts of the world.
The issues Arnie B is having do not affect me at all.
My time clock is in the top left not right and I still have the play button, not that I use it.
I don't know what the answer is.

This is indeed interesting. Just to clarify the time clock is in the top left and still shows ok. The top right always showed the total movie length but it's truncated now. I have to look on the timeline to see total movie length now.

Does anyone else have the problem with the transport controls showing on the full screen mode?

I am going to plan to do a fresh install of Windows - but that is so painful and will take me the best part of two days to backup all the data files on my PC and then to restore to the clean Windows install but things really have gone haywire after the Windows 10 upgrade and reinstalling Magix alone does not solve the problem.

Don’t bother Arnie B.

It will just re install the current 1803 version.

I just went through that process thinking it would take me back to factory install.

Maybe reinstall from disc with no internet connection so it doesn’t automatically update.

This is going to be my next thing to try but as you say , days of work

browj2 wrote on 6/21/2018, 6:27 PM

@ArnieB

Try doing F9 to reset the windows. I don't have your problems with the clock or transport control on my Surface Pro 4.

Takes - confirmed - causes a crash. The preview and import buttons do not even show up. I will add it to my list. I suggest that you raise a ticket with Magix. I tried importing into MEP2018 Plus the take that I just made with VPX and had no problems. So, it is VPX that has a problem.

BTW, have you used the Project folder instead of making takes? You can Save the project folder (and subfolders) and load it in a new project. I used this when I was going through old continuous tapes. I made several subfolders and when I came to new/different subject matter, I cut the section and moved it to the appropriate subfolder. Then I could load the project folder into a new project, remove the non-pertinent folders and then just drag (or first preview and trim) the clips onto the timeline. Saves having a bunch of takes. The same thing can be done by creating multiple movies, of course, but then you have to export each one and then have to edit. Just something different.

Hi,

With the latest update at today's date. Win 10 1709

After I export to web 720x 25fps, VPX freezes.

The files are exported okay and the PC itself is not frozen, just VPX. I have tried but nothing unlocks it.

Even 'Close Window' on lower task bar does not move it.

How can I fix please?

Thanks

@MAGIX_Redaktion

Hi Mathais,

Here are a few more, first two are confirmed:

16. Importing a Take causes a crash in VPX. Importing the same Take into MEP2018 does not cause a crash. the take that I created was a short piece of a slightly longer clip.

17. PSD image files cannot be imported. The buttons in the Import menu do not even show up. Dragging a PSD file onto the timeline does nothing, in my case, and cause a crash for some others.

18. The Import screen upon startup always defaults to: C:\Users\Admin\Documents\MAGIX\Video Pro X\Projects when it should be the last path before shutting down VPX.

I think Magix needs to slow down a bit and just go over everything. There are a lot of un needed functions and they keep coming up with new ones instead of just producing a product that just works.
They are rushing these patches out and not getting to the big issues.
There's no point bringing out a new version every year with the same problems. We are at number 10 and no better off than 3 years ago.
Doug.

Yes DugsBugs when 1803 assaulted most of the PCs on our LAN, there was hell to pay. The network was so badly bruised it took 2 weeks to eventually iron it out and still I have trouble with printers. I put the update on hold until July on the video box so that is why it is still 1709. Who knows how it will work with 1803. Hopefully it will be fine.

Recently since Win 10, I spend so much time trying to repair problems caused by Win 10 updates. It has definitely effected my productivity and this is then worsened by programs that are updated without being fully tested.

Is there an answer to the freeze after an export to web save? It seems okay with export to avi though.

@1940

I don't use those functions so I don't know about that.
I don't ever crash when exporting but I have been using the MXV format lately which is stable.
Unfortunately we were forced into the 1803 with no going back that's why I'm looking at finding someone with an old disc to do a clean install with internet turned off and auto updating disabled.
My HP is still under warranty so maybe they can help.
It's a case of treading lightly with magix at the moment and change some habits until things are sorted.

Are you sure your HP does not have a small disc partition with a back up system image that you can reinstall from? This is fairly common with boxed PC's and would likely be Win 10 1709.
