Faded text

This post http://www.magix.info/uk/helped-needed-regarding-text.knowledge.861203.html
got my interest because I'm not sure of the best way to achieve it. Also, it reminded me of the earlier thread in Q&A about the 'karaoke effect' http://www.magix.info/uk/subtitle.knowledge.809425.html
which is another that eluded me at the time, although I didn't put much effort into the exercise.

The best I could manage was kludgy so I'm keen to hear of better ways please. I split my text into individual words like this:

Or for better quality: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/4019461/MEP-FadingText-1.jpg

Here's the result:

Hello Terry  !
The problem with gradually coming and vanishing letters are solved.
I used a black/white mask with a short gradient with a length of half the background photo,  and zoomed it out with Size/Position so much that the black part covered the whole screen, and then moved it to the left almost out of the screen, and set an X-pos Keyframe. Then moved the cursor to 3-4 sec and the black edge to the right to cover the screen and set a new X-pos keyframe. Then copied it for the last half of the photo. Finally clicking the Alpha-mask gave me the result I wanted.
I add a screendump and a wmv if it is accepted.

Hi Andreas,

I am trying to achieve the same effect with text. I would like to ask you if you could please elaborate more each point, specialle the last ones, as for some reason mine isn't working. I am not sure how to indicate to the text layer the alpha channel is the track below it.

Thanks!

Diego

Hi Diego,

See this thread for a recent question with a similar reply, but not as elegant a solution.

The video is on track 1, mask on track 2, text on track 3. You don't have to tell the text anything. Click on the mask to select it, go to Effects, Chromakey and click on Alpha. Depending on whether the mask is black or white and what you want to do, you either leave the arrow on the mask pointing upwards or change is to downwards. See the example by Andreas. He has one of each.

Don't forget, the mask has to move from left to right to create the effect.
