@Aaron-Re

Hi and welcome to the user to user forums.

First you should set up your program the way you want it to work by selection the options in both the Movie Settings and Program settings. (Find them under File in the drop-down list). Then you will at least get your waveforms and the ability to choose whether you want to have your audio on a separate track of not.

With a program this large it is worth a read of the pdf manual that you can download from the program under Help.

There are three ways to change volume within the program.

Automation of track faders.

Using the volume 'handles' on the audio tracks,

and drawing in volume curves using the curve tool from the tool bar.

The easiest way to fade volume is to use the 'handles' at the beginning or end of each clip in the audio track but not the best way if you want more control as to how the volume fades.

Start from reading page 127 onward of the pdf manual.

Object handles are described on page 89.

Ray.

Thanks Ray for the insight. Sounds like a bit of work. In Premiere I have to press CTRL+SHIFT+D. Hate paying Adobe the monthly fee so was hoping Movie Studio would do the trick. Nice program but lacking in some ways for sure.

Actually moving the handles isn't so bad. I've been editing my videos in Premiere and then using Movie Studio to make DVD's and BluRays since Adobe has declared that optical discs are "dead" - ridiculous. How else am I supposed to deliver videos to grandparents who don't even care to learn about email or texting?

Greetings @Aaron-Re

"I cannot see the audio waveform"

Right click on the audio and select create waveform display.

I suspect youve already found that out. Are you using the video and audio on one track option? If so again right click the track and select "Audio functions" and then select "video/audio on separate tracks.

"I can fade in and out the video but it does not affect the audio"

Assuming you are using v2022 this is a bug that seems to have crept in with this version. You can still fade in and out though.

But you do need to remember using fade in/out from the right click menu only fades the video. The audio can be faded by using the grab handles right click on the audio and press "create waveform display.

Edit - are I see from your reply above you've probably got this sorted. I should have been quicker replying but I stopped for a while to make a cup of tea.

@Aaron-Re

Hi,

Ray hasn't watched my videos on Everything Audio yet.

To be able to properly modify the audio separately from the video, in Program Settings, Video/Audio, uncheck "Video/Audio on one track." I always use VA on separate tracks; they are still grouped. Then, simply hold down Alt and drag the fade handle on the audio part (or the video part). To make J and L-cuts, hold down Alt and drag the end in or out if the clip has been trimmed, same with the video part.

MEP/MS/VPX can do much, much more than people give them credit for.

I suggest that you watch my tutorials on Everything Audio.

For the price it is a good program. And it still supports 3D which Adobe has also dropped. Thanks for the help everyone!
