external keyboard playing?

freelancelance wrote on 12/21/2013, 9:19 PM

This may be a dumb question...I have a Casio WK-210 keyboard connected to my computer via USB. I had imagined I would be able to play that keyboard and have the playing reflected "live" in Magix (Music Maxer MX). So when I switch to the keyboard tab, instead of using my computer keyboard to play, I can use my big Casio.

Is that possible, and if so how do I do it?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Hi,

Yes you should be able to play your keyboard, but first you have to set it up in the program settings. Make sure that your keyboard is on and set up for Midi, Local off, before starting MMM. In the program settings under audio/midi, select your keyboard as your input device. You may have to play with the drivers. I had a terrible latency problem and after reading other posts, I downliaded and installed the Asio4all driver. This worked.

Once you get the driver setup, in MMM you have to select a track and an instrument and click on REC to change it to REC MIDI. If you can play the keyboard on the computer, then playing your Casio keyboard should also play the selected instrument and you will see the keys being played on screen.

See the tutorials in this Forum for how to connect your keyboard and how to solve latency problems. Read the manual for setting up the drivers and selecting the midi keyboard.

Let me know how you make out. I don't have the MX version of MMM, only more recent versions.

Good luck,
