Error when opening file: "An error occurred while starting playback"

When I choose File>Open and select a file, I get the following error message: "An error occurred while starting playback. The system is low on memory. You may be able to reduce memory usage by closing other applications"

I am using Sound Forge 11 on Windows 10. Its a brand new PC with tons of RAM. Focusrite Scarlett 18i8.

This error message only displays when I have "Auto Play" selected (which is one of the nice features in Sound Forge).

Any help is appreciated.

I had the same issue. When I changed the playback device in the options of Sound Forge from "Microsoft Soundmapper" to any other device, it worked again. Try to select your Scarlett as playback device.

I continued to have the problem, but seeing your answer prompted me to mess with it again. I found underneath the playback device pulldown is a buffer slider. I pulled that a little to the right to increase the buffer, and it seems to be working now. Thanks.
