I've loaded Sound Forge Audio Cleaning lab2 and work on Windows 10. When creating audio cd message "This file does not have an app. Please install app or create an association in default apps". There should be a choice of file type ie mp3 etc but this "page" is being missed and the app goes straight to create an audio cd. Device manager says that my cd drivers are up to date. (New Windows 10 loaded 3/4 months ago and recd updates since).
If i have understood correctly what you are trying to do, you want to create an Audio CD using .mp3 files. Put simply, you can't, at least, not without some conversion of the audio files!
The Audio CD specification, which SFACL2 keeps to it seems, is that files must be 44.1kHz, 16 bit, .wav (uncompressed wave) format. .mp3 is a compressed audio format. So-called "mp3 CDs" are actually "Data CDs", not "Audio CDs". Many modern CD players can "play" mp3 CDs but they are not, strictly, "Audio CDs", according to the strict, Red Book, specification.
You need to either convert your .mp3 files to the needed format of .wav, or use another app which is capable of burning and mp3 CD.
thanks for your reply. One of the options should be to make an mp3 file but what I need to do is to choose to "burn on the fly" for an audio cd. A .vip file has been created using a previous version of Magix Audio Cleaning Lab 10. I purchased Sound Forge because this is supported by Windows 10. I have a colleague who uses the same programme without any trouble. The files are to be used on cd players or computers. It does create a cda file with the tracks from the .vip file but doesn't give me the option of burning on the fly etc.
Mention that a .vip file has been created using a previous version of Magix Audio Cleaning Lab has somewhat "muddied the waters", I fear. That file contains no audio, it is the project data file which tells the program which audio file to use when, with what effects etc., etc. If you open that .vip file in SFACL2 do you actually see the audio files on the workscreen? If not, you have either moved them from where the .vip file thinks they should be or, worse still, you have deleted them from your computer!
I think it might be very useful if you could post screenshots of the workscreen with the .vip file loaded.
I don't normally want or need to burn .mp3 files to a CD but I have just opened one in SFACL2, selected the Export>Audio CD option and see the following:
(I have hidden ID data). Pressing the "Burn CD" button allows me to choose one of the two burners installed in my computer and then burn the CD.
Given this latter fact, I was clearly wrong to suggest in my previous post that SFACL2 cannot burn mp3 CDs. My apologies!
Hi thanks for your reply. Non of the files created in the previous version of ACL 10 have been deleted and I can see the audio files created on the screen using the .VIP file. The problem occurs when I press the Burn button after choosing audio file. I don't get the option of choosing any burner but a cda file is produced. I will try the mp3 option although at present I don't need this option but may in the near future.
A colleague uses the same software without any problem although he had to update the Sound Forge 2 from Audio Cleaning Lab 10 as he was not able to produce a cd when he had a Windows 10 update! Now with Sound Forge 2 ;he has not problems using the files created in ACL10.
I will try to check the production of a mp3 file too. I am beginning to wonder whether Windows 10 is completely compatible with Sound Forge 2 in spite of the specification in the blurb.
Any ideas for solving the problem would be appreciated. By the way I am not very technical!
Hi Thank you for your comments. My Windows Media Player is working and can play mp3 files. The audio file that I create with Sound Forge plays loud and ok but the problem is that I have no choice of burner.
Which version of SFCL are you using - the 32bit or 64 bit version, and is you colleague using the same one?
. . . . but the problem is that I have no choice of burner . . . .
That would suggest either:
the disc drive is a read only device ie not a burner - what make/model is it?
the burner drivers are not installed.
Open Device Manager and check that there are no errors with the disc drive - it should have no yellow icon alongside it. This will also tell you the true model identity of the disc drive.
Hi There are no errors on the disc drive (no yellow icon) in Device Manager. It says against DVD/CD ROM drives hp DVDRW GUEIN. I'm using 64 bit. The laptop is hp17-by2500na with Windows 10. SFCL is version 2.
But what about the burner drivers, as @johnebaker asked?
In Device Manager right-click on your DVDRW, click on "Update driver". You should then see a message which includes the option to "Search automatically for drivers". Click this, and then tell us what message you receive.
Hi When I right click on thjr DVDRW and Update Drriver I have clicked on "Search automatically for drivers" and receive the message "Windows determined that best driver is already installed. There may be better drivers on Windows update or on the device's manufacturer's website".
In a much earlier post in this thread I asked if you could post a screenshot of your workscreen, with your .vip file loaded. Can you do this, along with a shot of the Burn CD screen, similar to the one I posted earlier? I'm beginning to suspect that the actual audio files may not be properly loaded to the app and that is what is causing the error.
As this is a HP laptop also check the HP site for drivers for the burner, from past experience, HP have their own versions of many drivers which if updated by Windows could cause issues.
