Error Message "Device unavailable"

Hi, I am configuring Sound Forge 13 in a recording studio. In addition to SF, this PC is also part of an Audio-Vault Flex automation system. Not sure if this makes a difference, but there it is.

When I hit "Record" it brings up a dialog box telling me that an error occurred because the device is unavailable. I've checked all outputs from the soundboard, checked the inputs and sound card on the computer. Any thoughts here? Any help will be appreciated. Thank you.

PS: I'm not a techie, but I'm the techiest one here. I'm a jock trying to help out a non-profit. Thanks.

Hi @NCRS and welcome to the Magix Sound Forge forum

I am not familiar with Audio-Vault Flex automation system aside from seeing it in Radio World mag. Does Sound Forge (SF) playback audio files normally? Are you recording a live source? (a VO for instance).

Assuming sound plays back normally otherwise, in SF, try changing the audio device 'Record' settings. In SF Pro, go to "Options> Preferences> Audio" and experiment with the 'Audio Device type' settings. Specifically look for the soundcard or interface where the audio is coming in or from.

If playback is coming into the same PC form elsewhere, you may try changing Windows control Panel sound settings to 'Record> Stereo mix'

When another app is already using the audio device, you would also get the stated error message

Thank you for the information. To answer your question, yes, playback is fine. No issues. It's only with recording. Audio=Vault (AV) records just fine. It's SF that has the issues. I will give this a try tomorrow. Thank you again.
