Empty files in Movie edit pro 2013

eric.neldemo wrote on 8/6/2013, 11:02 AM

I have downloaded the trial of Movie edit pro 2013.

The first thing I was going to try was to get some old stuff from old VHS tapes over to my pc.

Using a VHS player and the Magix USB Video converter.

Everything seems to work until I'm going to exit the capture dialog. (Clicking OK after stopping the capture)There I get an errormessage saying that the file is empty. If I make a snapshot, either from the dialog box or from the converter I get jpg-files of excellent quality, but the videofiles are empty.

(During capture I can preview audio as well as video without any problems)

Anyone that have seen this before and now what to try?

Hi,

You really need to provide a little more detail to this question.  For example, are these VHS tapes tapes that you shot on your own video camera, or are they commercial tapes which could be protected by something like MacroVision.  If they are, you are going to have a great deal of difficulty circumventing the MacroVision protection.  If they are your own tapes, you are going to have to look at your capture settings, and adjust them.  Please help us help you by providing a lot more details.

For example, in addition to the above, what are your system specs (RAM, CPU, Windows OS version, etc.)

Hi Eric,

Thank you all of this information tells me that your system resources are pretty much fine.  So that is not likely the problem.  Are you trying to capture NTSC video (U.S. and Japan) or Pal (Europe and many other contries)?  Also, are you trying to capture the video using Movie Edit Pro's "Screen Capture" or "Video Capture" or are you capturing using the sofware that came with your Magix Capture device?  If you are using Movie Edit Pro to create the capture, you need to make sure that MEP recognizes you capture device and that you have set the correct video and audio settings so that the capture will happen.

I need to step away for a few hours but will come back on line later to see if I can help any more.  In the mean time, there are others out there who may ask more questions, and the team of users here on this site are very very good.

Hi

What format are you trying to capture the video in?

The fact that you can capture still images indicates that the capture chain is working, so the problem may be the capture format and settings you are using are incorrect.

Have you checked in the MyRecord folder to see if there is a captured file? If you are not sure where the folder is ceck your program settings

John.

Hi Eric,

If you are trying to use MEP to capture the video, here is what you should be doing.

Go through the steps starting at step 1 and work through to step 5.
