Using the Title template "Attractive" as an example; how can I make changes to the Subtitle independent of the Main title? For example I may want to change the the font itself, its size or colour independent to the Main title.
Double-click on the title on the timeline or on the title in the Preview Monitor to open it in the Preview Monitor. There, highlight the text that you want to change, and make your changes in the Title Editor. Accept with the checkmark in the Preview Monitor. You can have multiple fonts, colours and sizes on the same line.
Note that you can only do this on the title in the Preview Monitor - not in the Title part of the Title Editor.
You can type in the text editor box where it may be easier to see and read what you are doing and you can see it on the monitor. If you open the text in the monitor, you don't see the placement on the screen until you close it whereas you do when adding text in the editor text box.
If you add animation, like bottom to top, then there is nothing showing on the monitor at the beginning of the clip and you have to scrub along the timeline or open the box in the preview monitor to see the text.
In other words, the title editor box is not graphical, just plain text.
Thanks for mentioning an additional utility for the text editor box. It would be a nice feature if one highlights the text in the Title editor box, the text is also highlighted in the Preview monitor (based on other video editors).
Another "trick" I learned while editing titles is that if you have to move the sliders to scroll through the Title editing window to find the attribute you want to change, after highlighting the text, you have to click on the Title editing window before you move the sliders or the text highlight will disappear! Highlighting the text and clicking on the sliders does not work. This is not a big issue in MMS since it has a combined Source and Preview monitor allowing a bigger area to fit the Title editing window but VPX has separate Source and Preview monitors so the Title editing window is naturally smaller in size (working on a laptop) and scrolling is necessary. Again it would be nice that once highlighted, the text stays highlighted until you have completed your editing.

On my laptop VPX installation I have modified layouts with saved keyboard shortcuts for switching layouts as shown below.
Note: I have re-assigned F9 to the Standard layout, the Reset Window layout behaviour is not what you would expect.
Yes, clicking on the slider in the text editor with the text box open in the Preview Monitor turns off the text box. I think that we should raise a ticket on this. I have never noticed the problem because I use 2 screens and the Media Pool is always full height.
There is a workaround. Open the text box in the Preview Monitor, select the text that you want to change, then first click in the text box of the text editor (or any other effect in there). Now you should be able to move the vertical slider without the text box in the Preview Monitor turning off. It works for me in VPX16.

Assuming you have a mouse connected to the laptop, the mouse scroll wheel, while hovering over any vertical or horizontal pane slider, will move the view without needing to click anywhere.
For fast scroll hold down the Ctrl key while scrolling.
You must be communicating with me by mental telepathy regarding the Layout function keys. As a Pinnacle Studio user, I decided to invest in VPX16 because the software had separate Source and Preview monitors like Pinnacle. Also, with a click of a button, Pinnacle would revert to a combined Source/Preview monitor like MMS if desired but since this button didn't exist in VPX, the Layout function keys achieved the same result allowing more screen real estate for the Media/Effects Pool. 🙂
As for your mouse wheel scroll suggestion- Genius! I guess I have an ingrained habit of clicking on the slider I want even if I was to use the mouse wheel to move it. That is why I never discovered the "trick" you suggested because I habitually click on the slider I want to move either by dragging or rotating the wheel.
As suggested by John CB, I still will raise a ticket with Support because the window sliders should be considered part of the Title Editing window and you shouldn't lose the highlight over the text by clicking on the slider to scroll down or across the window. I will also suggest an enhancement where if you highlight text in the title input window, that same text gets highlighted in the preview window. In the meantime, your suggestions will work. Thanks to the both of you for responding.
