Editing output from Canon XF300

The Canon XF300 produces a Material Exchange Format file (MXF) which contains, amongst other things, the video and audio data. There are two (expensive) softwares that edit the MXF files in their native formats and two that rely on Canon plug-in software to allow MXF files to be imported for editing. Does anyone currently use the Magix editor with the Canon MXF files and if so how.

I looked at the product info for the latest version of Movie Edit Pro on the Magix web site.  MXF is not listed as one of the formats or file extensions supported.  Sounds like you will need to convert the MXF format to one supported by Movie Edit Pro it you want to use it.

You can find the supported formats on the last page of the PDF document at:

Although my post is too late, I hope it could be useful to you.

Yeah, if you would like to edit the canon xf300 mxf files with FCP/FCP X, you need to install xf-plugins to make them compatible, which is very expensive. As far as I know, you need to add another 10%+ at least to the price of the camera, plus a whole new learning curve.

However, if you would like to edit canon xf300 with magix movie edit pro, you will encounter another problem that mxf format is not supported by it.

So I suggest you use Sony vegas or Adobe Premiere Pro CS 5.5 to edit the canon xf300 mxf files.

Besides, there is another method for you: you could convert the canon xf300 mxf files to mov or wmv with a mxf converter such as brorsoft mxf converter, and then import the output videos to video editing softwares for further editing.

Maybe this guide could be useful to you: http://brorsoft.com/how-to/import-canon-xf300-1080i-mxf-files-to-fcp7-without-xf-plug-ins.html
