DVD player won't play discs burned using MEP 2016 Plus

srcb2 wrote on 12/25/2015, 10:43 AM

I have a Dell XPS 8700 tower using Windows 7 64-bit.  It plays such DVDs fine, but when I insert the disc into my blu-ray or any of my DVD players, it isn't recognized.  I didn't have this problem with MEP 2014.  Am I missing a step?  It's almost as if the disc isn't getting finalized.

Hi

In the DVD burn options check that you have the correct TV standard select for your location ie PAL or NTSC as shown below when you click the Encoder settings button

I tried selecting "Standard DVD NTSC Widescreen."  Still no luck.  My DVD player came back with "No Disc."

Hi

. . . . "Standard DVD NTSC Widescreen."  Still no luck.  My DVD player came back with "No Disc." . . . .

This usually means the disc is faulty or an incompatible type for the the player.

What brand / type of disc are you using?

Tip: I use rewriteable discs ( DVD-RW or BD-RE ) for all my initial burns and testing, this saves money not creating coasters.

Once the movie is as I want it and plays OK, then I copy the DVD-RW (or BD-RE ) to permanent disc DVD-R or BD using Nero, if you do not have a disc copying program  ImgBurn is good freeware.

I've used Memorex DVDs with no issues.  As I said, I didn't have this problem with Movie Edit Pro 2014.  My computer's disc drives will play these DVDs that I burned using MEP Plus 2016, but my standalone players do not recognize them.  It's almost as if they're not being finalized.

Hi

Were the failed discs from a new pack?

What type are they ie DVD-R, DVD+R or what?

I would recommend you try a different brand.

I use Ridisc DVD-R full face printable discs and have never had one that is incompatible with DVD or BD players - this includes a 15 year old Panasonic DVD recorder.

These DVDs are from the same pack that I used with no problems on MEP 2014.

Looks as if you were right.  I tried using Verbatim DVDs and DVD-RWs and my players can play them.  All's well that ends well.  Thanks!
