DV-AVI Smart Render

@Bearedeboss, in the closed thread you asked:

Whilst editing Mini DV-AVI Type 2 files when you just need to trim a file down without loosing quality like direct copy smart mode.

I noticed that if I just do some cuts then select export as DV-AVI then there is a option checked to say copy parts without re-encoding, I think that this is what I am expecting it will do, just cut on the Keyframes which should be handy for trimming AVI which as you know has a keyframe on every frame. The reason I am asking, is that I normally use a freeware program avimux to do the cutting but I prefer the editing experience in Magix for cutting now. Normally if I have a long vhs tape that is captured in one go then there is often alot of blank space at the end or is handy to go through and trim and cut up the different parts and tidy it up before bringing back into the main time line. I guess that I am just double checking before I start any trimming since if I am correct then I will be able delete the original capture files once they are trimmed and tided up.

You can smart-render both DV-AVI Types 1 and 2. On my system, the rendering speeds are:

Smart Render off: 19 frames per second;

Smart Render On: 38 frames per second.

Cheers, Alwyn

My struggle is over! I built my (now) system 2 in 2011 when DV was king and MPEG 2 was just coming onto the scene and I needed a more powerful system to cope. Since then we've advanced to MP4 and to bigger and bigger resolutions. I was really suffering, not so much in editing (with proxies) but in encoding, which just took ages. A video, with Neat Video noise reduction applied, would encode at 12% of film speed. My new system 1 does the same job at 160% of film speed. Marvellous. I'm keeping my old system as a capture station for analogue video tapes and DV.
